'A historic moment' - Americans react to birthright citizenship case

The BBC’s Ione Wells spoke with protesters and attendees outside the Supreme Court hearing on President Donald Trump’s executive order.

The US Supreme Court on Wednesday heard arguments from both sides concerning President Donald Trump's executive order limiting birthright citizenship.

The Supreme Court appeared sceptical of Trump's order, a sign the high court could strike down a key element of his immigration agenda. The administration has argued that limiting birthright citizenship is necessary to rein in illegal immigration. Opponents argue it would upend more than a century of precedent and unravel a cornerstone of US immigration law.
