AFCAT 2 Notification: Indian Air Force Recruitment Details

The AFCAT 2 notification for the Indian Air Force just dropped. It’s out now.

Applications officially kick off May 20th. You need to hit the official website, afcat.cdac.in, to start the process. But watch the clock. The absolute final date to submit everything is June 19th, 2026. Don't miss that.

They’re filling over 300 posts through this recruitment. That means 142 officers are being looked at for the Flying and Ground Duty branches.

The entry requirements are pretty specific, especially for the Ground Duty branch. It’s not just about passing anything.

For the Ground Duty branch, you need a deGree in Aeronautical Engineering , specifically Electronics , and you have to score at least 60%. That’s one path.

Or, there are other routes. A 12th pass with good marks in Math and Physics, getting at least 50%. Or maybe a three-year graduation deGree, also needing that 60%. Or a BE/BTech deGree with 60%. It gets complicated fast.

Age is another factor. It’s calculated as of July 1, 2027.

The age limits shift depending on the branch. For the Ground Duty and Non-Technical roles, they want candidates between 20 and 26 years old.

If you’re aiming for the Flying Branch, the window is narrower: 20 to 24 years.

There’s a slight exception, though. If you already hold a valid Commercial Pilot Licence—that CPL from the DGCA—the upper age limit can stretch up to 26 years. That’s a small bit of flexibility there.

Application fees are also a thing. If you are applying through NCC Special Entry or GATE, you skip the fee entirely. That’s a big relief. Otherwise, expect to pay Rs 550.

The selection process itself is layered. It isn’t just one test.

  1. First, you take the Written Examination. It’s worth a maximum of 300 marks, and you only get two hours to do it. And yeah, there’s negative marking. One mark deducted for every wrong answer. It’s stressful.
  2. The subjects covered are General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning. Plus, the Military Aptitude Test comes in.
  3. After that, if you pass the exam, it moves to the SSB Interview stage. Then comes the Document Verification. They need to check everything. Credentials. Eligibility.
  4. And finally, if you make it that far, you have to clear the Medical Examination. Gotta meet the IAF's standards, obviously.

Training starts way later. It won't begin until the first week of July 2027. That’s when things move to the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Hyderabad.

The training length varies wildly. Flying Branch and the Ground Duty Technical track? That’s 62 weeks. But the Ground Duty Non-Technical track? That’s 50 weeks.

And remember, when you join, you need your PAN card sorted. And you need an account in a State Bank of India or any other nationalized bank. Basic stuff.
