AIADMK Internal Conflict and Rebellion

The mess inside the AIADMK got really sharp on Tuesday. It all kicked off when senior leader CV Shanmugam publicly backed Vijay as chief minister. He accused Edappadi K Palaniswami of trying to pull support from the DMK to run the state. And then he announced those rebel MLAs would back the new Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government.

spoke to reporters after some meetings with the dissidents. He said the group had been told that EPS could get the chief minister spot with the DMK’s help. It was a fractured verdict, you know?

“During those meetings,” he said, “we were told that with the help of the DMK, EPS would be made chief minister. We were asked to just accept it. We fought that. We felt it was wrong and we said so. They just didn’t take our views.”

He called that whole proposal a betrayal. A betrayal of the AIADMK’s roots. He pointed back to MGR and Jayalalithaa . That’s where the party started. It was supposed to be an alternative to the DMK.

“This whole movement,” insisted, “it was started as opposition to the DMK. There was this idea about supporting the DMK before us. That proposal gave us a real shock. We didn’t accept it.”

made it clear too. The rebel faction wouldn’t join any DMK alliance. “We want to announce that the AIADMK will not be part of any alliance,” he stated plainly.

Meanwhile, the dissenters formally backed and . They accepted the people’s decision from the Tamil Nadu election. “The people of Tamil Nadu gave their mandate to and as chief minister. The AIADMK accepts that verdict,” said.

There was also this move inside the rebellion. They tried to shuffle the leadership. They pushed for SP Velumani to be the new AIADMK legislative party leader. Velumani tried to downplay it, of course. He kept saying they didn’t want to split the party. “We do not want to break the AIADMK; we will not split it,” Velumani insisted.

But kept pushing. He stressed the goal wasn’t destruction. It was revival. “We fully accept the election defeat. That alliance failed,” he argued. “The AIADMK needs to be revived. The one led by MGR and Jayalalithaa needs to bounce back.”

This all happens while things are tearing apart internally. There’s this growing rebellion. MLAs are splitting into different camps. They’re demanding EPS step down because the party performed so badly electorally. Some of the AIADMK MLAs aligned with ’s side have already left for the Assembly. The power struggle is about to move from talk to the floor.

At the same time, whispers are getting louder about the external side. Sources say is meeting up with some big names. VCK chief Thol. Thirumavalavan . Plus Congress leaders. It seems the chief is trying to lock down more support after the poll. It’s all moving fast, and nobody really knows where it’s going.
