Allegations of Rogue Cellular Signals and Telecom Violations in Jammu and Kashmir

Pakistan is reportedly violating international telecommunication rules. They are deliberately beaming rogue cellular signals across the border into Jammu and Kashmir. This is allegedly done to aid terrorist groups operating in the Union Territory, especially the Jammu region, officials told the news agency PTI on Sunday.

Infiltration patterns, particularly in the Pir Panjal range, suggest something more. There’s been a real surge in telecom towers built right along the Line of Control in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These towers are being used to shoot signals toward various jails where terrorists are held.

Signal traces have been detected in border districts. Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch. Even near the highly sensitive Kot Balwal jail area in Jammu. The mountains in the Kashmir Valley naturally block signals. But the flat topography of the Jammu region? That lets the frequencies penetrate deep inside Indian territory. It’s that simple, and terrifying.

The jammers currently in place at some Jammu prisons? They just can’t stop these signals. The smugglers keep mobile devices functioning inside those blanketed prison zones. Illicit communication just keeps going.

This whole setup violates something big. It breaks Article 45 of the Constitution of the International Telecommunication Union. That’s the UN body. It demands that all 193 member states stop transmitting false, misleading, or superfluous signals. And cooperate to find these unauthorized stations. That’s what the officials said to PTI.

These installed towers aren't just any towers. They use CDMA technology . High-grade encryption. It’s developed by a Chinese firm, specifically tailored for YSMS operations. CDMA itself is a serious headache for electronic monitoring. It lets multiple signals stack up on one channel.

Terror outfits are leveraging YSMS services now. It’s an advanced tech. They merge smartphones with radio sets. This lets a handler based in PoK stay in touch with an infiltrating group. And their local reception party in Jammu. It’s a way to evade the Indian Army’s interception.

Officials stressed that traditional jammers just won't cut it. They need a next-generation facility. Why? Because the threat environment in Jammu and Kashmir is already hyper-sensitive. It’s complicated by cross-border signals, drone-assisted devices, and shifting telecom spectra.

The new technology is supposed to pinpoint and neutralize these active rogue devices in specific zones. It’s about stopping the rogue communication networks from crossing the border. That whole thing happened back in 2019-20. Security agencies managed to dismantle a network then, after they cracked the encryption. It’s a different game now.
