AMFI Data for March 2026: Mutual Fund Performance and Inflows

AMFI data for March 2026 is coming in, and it paints a mixed picture.

Mutual funds saw a sharp jump in equity inflows during the month. That’s Rs 40,366 crore coming in. But here’s the kicker: the industry’s overall asset base actually shrank month-on-month because the market was weak.

Equity schemes, specifically, pulled in a lot. Net inflows hit Rs 40,366 crore. That’s a massive 55% jump from February, up from Rs 25,965 crore. It suggests retail participation is still there, despite all the volatility.

SIP contributions followed suit too. They moved up to Rs 32,087 crore. A slight increase from the previous month’s figure.

But look at the total assets. The surge in money didn't translate into bigger holdings. Total AUM for the mutual fund industry actually dropped. It settled at Rs 73.73 lakh crore in March. Down from Rs 82.03 lakh crore in February. That’s a drop of over ten percent.

Where did the money go? Mostly mark-to-market losses. That broad correction in equities really hit the valuation.

Segment-wise, things looked different. Inflows remained strong across the board, actually.

  • Large-cap funds saw an increase, moving up to Rs 2,997.8 crore.
  • Mid-cap funds also drew Rs 6,063.5 crore, up from Rs 4,003 crore.
  • And small-cap funds were strong too, attracting Rs 6,263.6 crore, compared to Rs 3,881 crore in February.

That tells a story about where people are putting their bets.

Meanwhile, liquid funds saw outflows. That’s typical, usually tied to those financial year-end adjustments corporates make.

Gold ETFs saw a slowdown in demand. Inflows eased up. They went from Rs 5,255 crore in February down to Rs 2,266 crore.

Hybrid funds had a sharp shift too. They posted outflows of Rs 16,538.5 crore. That followed inflows of Rs 11,983.4 crore just a month before. It seems there’s a real swing happening across the different types of funds right now.
