A.R. Rahman's Tribute Performance at the Attari Border Post

A.R. Rahman , the guy who won the Academy and Grammy stuff, he did something huge today. He gave his first live performance. Right there at the iconic Attari Border Post. It was a tribute, obviously, to the BSF , those brave men and women guarding the border.

It happened during the Beating Retreat Ceremony . People gathered. Thousands of visitors showed up at the JCP Stadium , celebrating something bigger. Patriotism. Gratitude. Nationhood. The whole atmosphere was just electric. Emotions were running high. It felt like a landmark moment, something people will remember.

But this wasn't just any concert. It was tied to the film Main Vaapas Aaunga . That fact, happening right at the Attari border, it just sticks with you.

Main Vaapas Aaunga is about love and longing. Set against the backdrop of the Partition. The biggest migration ever, the one that changed everything for the subcontinent. It comes straight from the stories of people who lived through that time. That’s the core of it.

The event started off with some people welcoming everyone. Imtiaz Ali , Ananya Birla from Birla Studios, Vedang Raina , and Mohit Choudhary from Window Seat Films. They were thanking the BSF, naturally. The filmmakers made sure to dedicate the upcoming music album to the courage, to the sacrifice of all the Indian armed forces. A necessary gesture.

Then the music started. Rahman brought it in with that soulful melody, Chanda Suraj Lakhon Taare . It shifted quickly into the world of the film. Energetic performances of the songs from Main Vaapas Aaunga .

You heard Maskara sung by Nilanjana Ghosh and Vedang Raina . And Ishq Mastana . Mohit Chauhan sang that one, along with Pooja Tiwari and Nargis , and other tracks from the movie.

It wrapped up with Rahman’s signature piece— Maa Tujhe Salaam . It just filled the whole place up with feeling. Pride, national feeling.

Imtiaz Ali spoke up about it. He called it a ‘unique event.’ He was really emotional. He said, this performance at the Attari Gate at the JCP Stadium. It wasn't just music. It was an ode. To the national spirit. To the bravehearts on the border. The BSF. The Army. It was about solidarity. Love binding everything together. He touched on how the film itself comes from that border, from the making of the border during the Partition of 1947. Homes lost. Hearts broken. He said they bring a message of love because that’s what keeps us going.

Main Vaapas Aaunga itself is steeped in that feeling of love and longing, you know? Imtiaz Ali , Diljit Dosanjh , Naseeruddin Shah , Sharvari , Vedang Raina were in it. Rahman composed the music. Irshad Kamil wrote the lyrics. Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment , plus Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar , produced it. It’s coming to cinemas on June 12th, 2026. Music is on Tips Music. Just a film, but it carries so much weight.
