Dhurandhar 2: Casting, Direction, and the Story of Covert Intelligence

Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh got some nods for Dhurandhar 2 . Direction and acting, that’s what they got praised for. But Mukesh Chhabra, the casting choices—he gets credit there too.

He said he still can’t get over the magic Aditya Dhar put together. An honor, he said, playing Bansal.

Sushant Bansal, the guy Manav played, he was in charge of training Indian spies. Like Jaskirat Singh Rangi. Ranveer Singh played Rangi.

How Manav got the role, that’s interesting. He told India Today how he landed it. No audition needed. He wasn’t even sure about the script or the director, nothing.

He was just holidaying in Mussoorie. Then Mukesh Chhabra called. Asked if he had dates. Manav said yes. And Chhabra just said, ‘Bangkok jaana hai.’ That was it. No audition. No knowing what the film was.

Dhurandhar 2 is still running. Ranveer Singh’s version keeps pulling in the box office. It doesn't slow down, even on weekdays.

Aditya Dhar made it.

The first part, it’s set in Lyari town in Karachi. You know, the place with all that history of gang wars. Violent turf battles.

The whole thing is about covert intelligence work. Against this backdrop of big stuff. Geopolitical things. Terror events. Think the Kandahar plane hijack. The 2001 Parliament Attack. The 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

The sequel follows Ranveer’s character, Hamza Ali Mazari. He gets into the Karachi underworld. He digs into where he came from. Tracing his journey to becoming a covert operator. That’s the thread.
