Donald Trump's Comments on Iran and Mojtaba Khamenei

Donald Trump made some comments recently about the situation with Iran, touching on the supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei .

He suggested there was a "good probability" that he knew where Khamenei was. And then he brought up the physical state of the Iranian figure. Trump claimed Khamenei was "very seriously injured."

This came during an interview with Meet the Press . They asked him directly if he knew the location or how Khamenei was doing physically.

Trump didn't give a straight answer on the location. He just said, "I don’t want to say whether or not I know where he is, but there’s a good probability that I do."

When pressed about whether Khamenei was still inside Iran, Trump shut down the question. "I’d rather not say that."

But he did talk about the injuries. He said Khamenei is "pretty badly injured" and "very seriously injured." And then he added something about his demeanor, noting there was "a certain bravery" in how the leader has kept speaking publicly despite the damage.

It’s important context here. Khamenei hasn't been seen in public since the initial strikes the ones that killed his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei, back in February, kicking off the whole war.

Then there was the comparison. Trump looked at the younger Khamenei and said he seemed "more rational." He called him "younger" and "I think more rational."

That part felt a bit jarring, you know? The injury factor came back in. He said, "Injured. He’s pretty badly injured. So there’s a certain bravery there." He felt like a pause there, maybe a slight shift in the air.

The whole thing pivots quickly to the peace talks. Trump then shifted focus to what a deal with Iran would look like. He made it clear that any potential aGreement wouldn't involve immediately releasing the frozen Iranian assets.

He insisted that Iran had to sort something out with Washington first. That was the prerequisite.

"A peace deal comes first," he stressed. And future talks, he implied, depend entirely on how Tehran acts.

He put it plainly: "If they behave, if they do a good job, we start talking."

Iran is looking for a lot of money, too. They’ve been asking for the release of over $100 billion in frozen assets as part of any potential settlement. Trump wasn't pushing for Lebanon to be part of any short-term deal with Tehran, though. Just keeping the focus tight on the big picture, I guess.
