Feroz Khan, Shakti Kapoor, and the Making of Qurbani

Feroz Khan, you know, he actually smashed his own car to make a big entrance in Qurbani . It’s a story that Zayed Khan brought up recently. It shows just how far he would go to make his vision happen on screen.

Qurbani itself, the 1980 film, is still massive. Iconic stuff. Great music, great style.

Zayed Khan was talking to Zoom, and he remembered this incident, something Fardeen Khan told him. Feroz Khan was planning his entry scene, and he just took a sudden call. Just stopped.

He was thinking about what he wanted. What entry? He had a brand new Mercedes. Vinod Khanna had such a great opening sequence, Amrish Puri had all that stuff. So, what would he give himself?

That scene where he banged the car? It wasn’t planned. It was just a decision. Like, get the car, bang it up. That was his entry. It was pure eccentricity. I mean, only an artist, you know? An artist gets to be that kind of eccentric.

Then there’s another thing. Something happened with Shakti Kapoor. He got his big break through a totally unexpected mess.

Shakti talked about this when he was chatting with AlphaNeon Studioz. He had just bought a used Fiat after some calendar shoot. That car ended up playing a role in his career.

He was driving on Linking Road. And then, bam. A Mercedes came from behind. Hit his car. Stopped just ahead after braking. He was absolutely furious. He didn’t even have money for food, let alone fixing the damage.

So he got out. Started shouting at the driver. And who was it? The guy stepping out of the Mercedes was Feroz Khan.

Shakti realized who he was yelling at right there. He changed his tone immediately. Asked for a chance.

“Sir, sir, please!” Shakti said. “My name is Shakti Kapoor. I’m from Film Institute. You’ve given everyone a chance. Danny got a chance. Please give me one too.”

Feroz’s reply was just… “Hey, look what you’ve done to my car.”

Even though Feroz Khan walked away, that moment stuck. Shakti Kapoor felt remembered. Eventually, the filmmaker cast him as the antagonist in Qurbani . And that role really shaped his career. A big deal.
