Iran Sends New Demands to Pakistan Over Diplomatic Issues

Iran just sent another batch of demands over to Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi. He’s wrapping up his trip there on Sunday.

Apparently, this new package mixed up things. It took Iran’s old fourteen-point and five-point plan and tacked on what the United States is pushing for. A top diplomatic source said that’s what Naqvi received.

The US laid out five specific conditions in response to Iran’s initial proposal. It’s a heavy list.

  • First, no compensation from the US.
  • Then there’s the handover of 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium straight to the US.
  • They also want only one nuclear facility left running.
  • And a big one: not even twenty-five percent of those frozen assets should be released right away.
  • And finally, the war on all fronts? That’s totally contingent on them sitting down and negotiating.

It’s a lot of pressure being put down.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister apparently managed to convey Field Marshal Asim Munir’s message to the Iranian leadership. It’s all about bridging the gap between the US and Iran, they keep doing that ‘to and fro’ messaging.

This current message is being sent with some high hopes for peace talks kicking off in Islamabad. The timing of this whole exchange matters a lot. President Trump just wrapped up his China trip. And Pakistani civil-military leadership, led by PM Shehbaz Sharif, is scheduled to head over to Beijing on May 23rd. That timing is crucial.

Naqvi met his Iranian counterpart, Eskandar Momeni, right after he landed.

The Dawn newspaper, quoting unnamed sources, reported that Naqvi’s two-day visit happened after US President Donald Trump rejected Tehran’s latest response to some of the American proposals. It just keeps moving.

Pakistan is still trying to do that shuttle diplomacy. The goal is to stop the negotiations from completely collapsing, especially since the momentum from earlier talks in Islamabad slowed down sharply.

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency framed Naqvi’s trip as part of Pakistan’s “ongoing efforts to facilitate dialogue and promote regional peace.”

The visit itself was officially framed around border security and cooperation. But things are still shaky. The ceasefire they brokered earlier through Pakistani mediation isn’t holding steady. There are still intermittent tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. And global energy shipping keeps getting disrupted.

Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, said they talked about border trade, transit, and exchanging goods. They also mentioned bilateral cooperation. These recent high-level contacts, Tehran and Islamabad, are just part of the intensified consultations following that ceasefire. It’s all layered on top of the existing mess.
