Market Update: Indices, Global Cues, and Commodities

Market today. It just kept climbing. The Nifty50 and the Sensex both extended their gains after that little pause they took, just hanging there for a moment. Everyone was still watching what was going on over in West Asia.

Some names were popping up as top gainers on the Nifty50 . They were up.

But the bigger picture? Broader markets were doing better than the benchmarks, actually. That’s where things got interesting. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices actually jumped. One up 1.52 percent, the other 1.65 percent. That’s a real move.

Sector-wise, the Nifty IT index was leading the pack. It pulled ahead. But the rest of the picture was a bit mixed. Not moving as fast.

Both of these indexes, they’ve been rallying this week. Around 5.7 percent total. That puts them right on the edge. They’re about to snap that losing streak they had for six weeks. And maybe this is their biggest weekly gain in over five years.

Then you look outside. Global cues.

South Korea’s Kospi led the charge, up 2.18 percent. A decent showing, I guess.

Over on Wall Street, things were shakier. Traders were chewing on the fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran. That uncertainty was weighing in. A slow climb, maybe.

And commodities? Brent crude edged higher in early trade. There was some worry about those attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure, and that uncertainty around the ceasefire just pushed prices up a bit. The April contract was up 0.58 percent. Still sitting at $96.44 per barrel.

Meanwhile, the precious metals market was a bit different. Gold and silver futures saw some profit booking. They actually declined a little. Gold futures dropped 0.71 percent. Silver futures were down 1.12 percent. Just some selling happening there.

It’s all moving, isn't it? A lot of different things happening at once. You watch the charts, you watch the news. It just keeps shifting.
