Modi’s Trip to the UAE and Strategic Energy Deals

Modi’s trip to the UAE this Friday brought some serious energy deals. It wasn't just a courtesy visit. It looked like a real strategic play, especially given the mess happening over in West Asia right now.

They signed a bunch of aGreements focused squarely on energy security. Talking about how to store oil.

The big deal here is the storage capacity. The UAE is essentially aGreeing to let India use its facilities. We’re talking about space for up to thirty million barrels of ADNOC crude oil. This feeds into India’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve .

That includes using facilities already set up in places like Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. And they also brought up potential reserve spots in Chandikol, Odisha.

But it wasn't just about India taking storage. The setup is two-sided. They talked about putting oil in Fujairah, UAE, as part of that same strategic reserve system. It’s about diversifying where the fuel sits.

And they weren’t stopping there. They started digging into other stuff too. Liquid Natural Gas, LNG. And Liquid Petroleum Gas, LPG. Potential for storage facilities in India was discussed there, too.

This whole movement seems designed to lock down fuel supplies. A long-term plan for energy security.

It’s all happening while the geopolitical situation in the Middle East is getting way more volatile. You can’t ignore the Iran-US-Israel conflict. Energy supply disruptions are a massive, looming worry. This move feels like a direct response to that uncertainty.

Meanwhile, the UAE wasn't just sitting back. They announced something else big. They are pushing hard on a major pipeline project. It’s aimed at cranking up their crude export capacity.

The goal? Doubling it. Through Fujairah.

It sounds ambitious. It’s about getting around the bottlenecks. Specifically, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. That strait is becoming an incredibly tense choke point right now.

Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reportedly pushed the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company—ADNOC—to move fast. That happened during an executive committee meeting Friday. They were pushing this West-East Pipeline project.

If that thing gets built, it changes things significantly for the UAE. It gives them a much better way to move their oil, dodging those regional tensions. It’s a huge strategic move for them, trying to secure their routes.

So you have the storage deals happening in one space, and the infrastructure deals happening in another. It’s a complicated picture of trying to manage energy risk. India securing its reserves, the UAE trying to secure its flow. It all feels connected by that underlying fear of instability.
