NEET UG 2026 Exam Cancelled: Details on Re-examination and CBI Inquiry

The National Testing Agency just cancelled the NEET UG 2026 exam. The test that was supposed to happen on May 3rd is off the table.

They announced it will be held again, but the new dates? Those are still coming. They’ll be announced later.

This decision came after they looked at information they got from central agencies, and some findings from law enforcement. The agency basically said the whole examination process couldn't just keep going like this. It had to stop.

Of course, this messes with lakhs of medical aspirants across the country. It’s a huge headache for everyone involved.

The NTA had already sent this matter over to the central agencies on May 8 for some independent checking and action. They framed it as a commitment to making sure the national exams are fair, secure, and credible.

Then the law enforcement findings came in. That’s what pushed the government to approve the cancellation and the decision to run a fresh test.

What’s more, the NTA confirmed they’re handing the whole thing over to the CBI. They want a full inquiry into whatever allegations came up during the examination process.

The exam agency promised they would cooperate fully with that investigation. They said they’d give the CBI whatever records, materials, and help they needed.

The real kicker is what they said about the trust. The NTA stressed that continuing with the original process, despite these findings, would have caused “greater and more lasting damage” to public trust. That was the core reason behind the call to stop things.

And they didn't want to cause more trouble. They felt the alternative would have been worse for everyone.

So, no extra fees. They said no additional examination fee would be charged from the candidates for this retest. And the fees already paid? They’ll be refunded. The re-examination will be run using the NTA’s own resources.

They are going to use their internal setup for this time.

They also clarified something important for the students. No need for fresh registration. Existing registration details, the candidature info, and the exam centers they picked back in the May 2026 cycle will just carry over. No starting from scratch.

The agency urged everyone to stick to official channels for updates. Don’t trust whatever rumors are flying around on social media.

The whole statement really hammered home the point: transparency and trust in the system were the most important things here.

They said details about the new schedule, the admit cards, and the exam arrangements will be shared officially soon. Until then, candidates and parents need to keep watching the official NTA channels. That’s the only place to look for updates on this NEET UG 2026 re-examination.
