NSE IPO Process and Timeline

NSE IPO stuff. They’re probably going to file that draft red herring prospectus by the end of June 2026. That’s the estimate.

The whole thing is aiming for a listing in the third quarter of this financial year. Before December. CNBC-TV18 mentioned this, citing folks who didn’t want to be named.

It fits with what we’ve seen before, you know? The long, drawn-out journey for this exchange.

Earlier whispers suggested something different. A stake sale, maybe four to four-point-five percent. The potential raise? That’s roughly twenty-three thousand crore rupees, depending on how the market plays out and what valuations end up being slapped down.

Remember the setup? Back in March 2026, the NSE lined up twenty merchant bankers. Law firms, all sorts of intermediaries, they got hired to manage this whole public offering.

Kotak Mahindra Capital, JM Financial, Axis Capital, IIFL Capital Services, Motilal Oswal, ICICI Securities, SBI Capital Markets... a long list of names. HDFC Bank, Morgan Stanley India, Citigroup, J.P. Morgan, HSBC... and a bunch more. They were all involved.

It’s a bit strange, really. They were trying to move forward.

This isn't new, though. They actually filed draft offer documents way back in 2016. That was to raise about ten thousand crore through an offer-for-sale from existing shareholders.

But that stalled.

SEBI stepped in. Governance issues popped up, linked to that co-location case. That put the whole proposal on hold. Since then, the NSE has chased the regulator, asking for permission, trying to get the Green light to proceed with the listing. It’s been a real back-and-forth.
