Orhan Awatramani on Fame, Criticism, and Cancel Culture

Orhan Awatramani, Orry, he just always speaks what he thinks. No holding back. He doesn’t care about the fallout.

He’s the social media personality, right? The one who just throws his opinions out there. And when he talks about fame, criticism, that whole "cancel culture" thing, it just proves his point, I guess.

He sat down with IANS for this conversation. And what he said about being famous, about the scrutiny—it just tracks back to why he does things the way he does.

He admitted that speaking his mind, unfiltered, that’s what made him stand out in the first place. That’s the core of it.

He basically said that fame tends to make people quiet, makes you cautious about what you say. But Orry refuses to let public opinion, or whatever, dictate who he is or how confident he feels.

He put it out there: “It’s true. I’m just bird vomiting all the time, and you never know what’s going to fall out of my mouth. I don’t hold back. I just don’t. What’s going to happen if I say something? I speak my thoughts. That’s what’s made me famous. That’s what brought me here. So why would I now stop?”

It’s a bit of a chaotic thought, really. He’s challenging the whole premise of being controlled by the audience.

When people get scared about being cancelled, Orry addresses that fear head-on. He makes it clear that all that worry about losing endorsements or upsetting some director or producer? It doesn't bother him.

He said, “A lot of people don’t want to say something because it’ll change how people look at them, or affect brand deals, or the movies they do. But I am not looking to do movies. So if someone gets offended, or a director or producer doesn’t like me, then so be it. And if I don’t get a brand deal because of this, then so be it. I will speak what I want to.”

Then he got into the cancel culture angle. He pointed out the hypocrisy. “A lot of people have the fear of being cancelled. But remember, you can’t cancel what you didn’t support. I worked hard to be famous. I made myself famous. No one gave it to me. I am not a cricket star. I am not a TV star. I am not a movie star.”

He ended up saying that no one really supported him. That the audience didn't see the grind. They didn’t see him waking up at five a.m. slogging every day. That journey. So you can’t cancel what you didn’t support. He pays his own bills. Nobody pays his bills. So what are you going to do? Cancel me?

And on the practical side of things? He’s moving forward. He’s all set for the reality show, Khatron Ke Khiladi season 15. Just another move, pushing ahead.
