Political Shifts and the Visit to Kolkata

The air around Kolkata felt thick that week. You could almost taste the shift.

Ten in the morning. On Rabindra Jayanti. A big deal, obviously.

Accompanying him, a whole entourage. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was there. And Nitin Nabin. Plus the chief ministers from those other NDA states. It wasn't just a formality. It was a statement.

Amit Shah got to Kolkata on Friday. Not just for the ceremony. He was there for a big BJP legislature party meeting. That’s where the real work was happening. They were electing the legislative leader. This all happened right before the actual swearing-in.

And some other BJP leaders. Just a quick handshake, maybe. But it felt loaded.

Later that day, Shah was scheduled to be at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre. Another party meeting. Just moving from one event to the next.

A historic victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Fifteen years ended. The TMC ’s rule was over. Mamata Banerjee, the outgoing Chief Minister, got a massive political hit. A real setback.

Preparations for the ceremony started already. Back on Wednesday. They were looking at the Brigade Parade Ground. Senior officers were checking the layout. Everything had to be perfect.

BJP flags. Cutouts of Modi. They started putting them up around the city. A visual shift. A clear signal.

Security was ramped up. Seriously tight. Nearly four thousand people. Central forces were involved. Quick Response Teams. And they weren't just watching the grounds. Surveillance was set up in those high-rise buildings too. Everyone was watching.

That happened way back on May 7th. That paved the way for this new government formation.

It all flows from that single election result. A massive political realignment happening right there in the state. A lot of moving parts, and everyone was trying to make sure the stage looked right. It felt urgent.
