Politician's Journey and Resignation Amidst State Uncertainty

He admitted he never thought he’d end up leading the state at all.

He said he came from a village.

“I come from a village,” he said. “I never imagined I would become a politician, Chief Minister or Leader of Opposition. I joined politics by chance because no one from my family was in this field.”

He repeated this feeling, talking about the process. He maintained he would step down whenever the party leadership told him to. It wasn’t a sudden move, though.

“I’ve said it multiple times,” he noted. “Whenever the High Command intimates me, I will tender my resignation. Day before yesterday, the High Command asked me to resign. I told them I would submit it today. Hence, I’ve submitted it.”

He then brought up the constitutional side of things. He expected the Governor, once he returned, to accept the resignation “according to the Constitution.”

“Once a Chief Minister tenders his resignation, he should accept it and make way for the next CM,” he insisted.

This whole thing is happening right in the middle of some real uncertainty.

And there’s talk about a Congress Legislature Party meeting coming up on Saturday. The swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief Minister is probably going to be finalized by the weekend. Sunday seems like the likely date for that.

He brought in some bigger ideas. Referring to that line from actor Rajkumar, the one about fans being god, he said something different. “I am a politician. Constitution is my religion. Voters are my god.”

Then he shifted to the performance of his time in office. He claimed the Congress administration actually delivered on promises. He pointed out they fulfilled 158 promises between 2023 and 2026. That included getting those five flagship guarantee schemes running within the first year.

“We have fulfilled the word we gave to the people of Karnataka,” he stated.

When it came to the money, he pushed back against the usual noise. He rejected the opposition claims that his government had pushed the state into debt.

“They made allegations that the CM, who is also Finance Minister, led the state into debt. It is false. I have said this in the Assembly too,” he countered.

He countered that argument by looking at the state’s economic health. He pointed out Karnataka’s GST collection was second nationally.

It sets the stage for the Congress high command to finally announce who the next Chief Minister will be. It’s a big transition happening right now.
