Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani's Relationship Journey

Three years. That’s how long it’s been since Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani actually got married in February of 2024.

They met through friends, you know? Then they became close, really close, during that whole COVID lockdown back in 2020. And she really puts it down to the friendship. That’s the bedrock of everything, she says.

She was talking to News18 recently, and what came out was pretty honest. She stressed how important it is to be best friends with whoever you’re with. It just works out, she implies. If there’s that friendship, you’re always there. You want to do everything together. No need to pull away.

It’s that kind of connection they talk about. Her friends are his friends, and his friends are hers. They go on trips together, that sort of thing.

But it’s not just friendship. Their marriage, she feels, is about being equals . There’s space for both of them to be themselves. Immense respect for who they are. They are each other’s cheerleaders. They’re happy watching each other grow. That’s the picture she paints.

Things change, obviously. Post-marriage.

There’s that practical stuff, too. Sleep schedules. That’s a huge adjustment. It has to change. Jackky actually made the shift for her. He wasn’t a night person, not really. He used to sleep around two-thirty in the morning. She was ten pm. Now? They’ve found a middle ground. Eleven o’clock. It’s just… compromise.

Thinking back to the beginning, the courtship felt like a whirlwind. She mentioned flying around just to see him. Dates meant long flights. She’d fly across cities. One time, it was a four-hour date, flying all the way to London.

It was early days. She was shooting for Doctor G. They took a break. She soft-launched him on Instagram back then.

She recounted one trip. She landed at eleven in the morning. Flight back to India at ten at night. She got there around one o’clock. Only four hours. It was his birthday. She just wanted to see him. Jackky had been in London for a year and a half during that dating phase.

Then there was that bit about the marriage itself, which got a bit more spicy online. Jackky recently made a remark about their marriage being a ‘situationship.’ It blew up on social media.

Rakul just laughed about it. They had a great laugh, she said. But she also pushed back on the idea of twisting things. Meaningful conversations shouldn’t just turn into clickbait. People need to focus on the actual stuff.

She quipped that they’re millennials. She said, “No need to become Gen Z.” Context matters. Nuance matters. Conversations deserve better than being reduced to some headline. Maybe the platforms need to take a little more responsibility for the stories they spread.

It’s a lot of shifting, really. From those early flights to figuring out bedtime, and then dealing with how people talk about their relationship now. It’s all just moving.
