Report on Twisha Sharma's Death and Related Investigation

The First Information Report filed over Twisha Sharma’s death paints a really grim picture. It shows a lot about her final moments, and frankly, a real sense of police inaction.

Things got delayed right from the start. Filing the FIR took forty-eight hours. The death itself was reported around midnight on May 13th, but the Bhopal police didn't officially register the FIR until 2:36 am on May 15th, according to the copy we saw. That kind of delay just feels wrong.

There are some disturbing details about the evening before. Just an hour before she died on May 12th, Twisha tried to call her family. But the phone just cut out at 9:41 pm. The FIR mentions that even while the family could hear Samarth shouting in the background, asking who she was talking to. It’s a horrifying picture.

Her family kept calling her number. They tried Samarth, her husband, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh. Nothing.

Then, Giribala told the family later, after picking up the phone at 10:35 pm, that Twisha was no more. The report also notes that Twisha had undergone an abortion. That context—the suspicion, the pressure—it’s all tangled up in this.

The police investigation seems to have started after the autopsy. They learned about the death at AIIMS, Bhopal, around 12:05 am on May 13th. What they found was that the death was due to hanging, and there were multiple injuries. The report noted antemortem injuries—simple ones, but also blunt force marks over other parts of the body. No drugs involved. Just hanging.

The police started digging at Samarth’s house after they got the autopsy report.

Then the family pushed back. They filed an FIR against Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh. The family claimed Twisha faced dowry harassment since the wedding last year. They said they were demanded two lakh rupees. They kept complaining that the wedding itself didn't meet the standards of Giribala’s family.

It also came out that Twisha hadn't been given any money for daily expenses by her in-laws. Her family had to manage her money transfers.

The FIR also touches on the abortion. It says Twisha had to have an abortion because her in-laws suspected the child was another man’s. She went back to her maternal home after a meeting on April 22nd, when Samarth had supposedly promised he wouldn't assault her anymore.

But then the news hit them on the night of May 12th. The family met the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister on Wednesday. They were assured there would be a CBI probe.

Meanwhile, Giribala Singh is out on anticipatory bail. And Samarth is still missing. It’s all moving, but it’s still just chaos.
