Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan: A Bromance and Career Journey

Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan. Their on-screen vibe, that whole bromance thing, it’s just something else. It goes way back, you know? Early nineties. They started things off on Pehla Nasha , Ashutosh Gowariker’s first directorial effort.

Then they kept going. Kal Ho Naa Ho . And now, they’re doing Kartavya . Shah Rukh is the producer there, and Saif is acting. It just keeps happening.

Saif actually talked about it recently, speaking to News18. He brought up that first impression.

“There was this interview he did for King Uncle . They asked him what he wanted to do. He said he wanted to be the number one star. The biggest thing India had ever seen. That was the first time I heard something like that. We just weren’t used to that kind of confidence,” he admitted.

He remembers meeting him then, and then, it just kept going. They shot one scene together on Pehla Nasha . They were working in that era. SRK was doing Baazigar with Venus. Saif was in Main Khiladi Tu Anari with them.

There’s that trip, too. The Temptation Tour in '04 in the USA. A memory they both hold onto.

They did all those shows, the ones that were just the best things on stage. And one time, during that time, Shah Rukh called him. Said, don't tell everyone how packed the house was. He had his reasons. But Saif said he never got a call like that. Someone telling you to downplay how successful a show actually is. For Saif, Shah Rukh has always been a friend. Someone he looked up to in so many different ways.

He couldn't really write a speech about how special SRK has been or his passion for work. But he just said, “He has been a visionary.”

It was more than twenty years ago when Shah Rukh started thinking about VFX. Red Chillies VFX. Saif took some time to really wrap his head around that.

He was obsessed with VFX at one point. But it wasn’t happening then. SRK said it was going to be huge. And Saif just kept pushing back, “You’re losing me.” They were at a bar in London. SRK told him, “No, you don’t get it. VFX is going to be the biggest thing.” That was about twenty-five years ago.

Saif also credits Shah Rukh for some pro-tips. Things that helped him out when making films like Hum Tum . They shot Kal Ho Naa Ho when New York felt totally different. Way, way back. Saif saw things close up. SRK taught him how to be a lead in a movie when he got the offer for Hum Tum . He learned a lot. A little bit, he laughed.

Things are moving fast, though. You see news popping up all the time. Like the Kerala CM oath taking, or the updates on the PM Modi’s tour. And the constant noise about international stuff—Iran, the US, the cricket squad announcements. It’s all just happening.
