Siddaramaiah Government Withdraws Seven Riot Cases Linked to Ladle Mashak Dargah Incident

The Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka pulled seven riot cases. They were linked to the mess at the Ladle Mashak Dargah in Aland town back in 2022. Cabinet documents, which CNN-News18 got a look at, show this move happened.

It wasn’t just a simple withdrawal. The state cabinet made the call after Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader pushed for it. That move immediately sparked real political heat. Hindu groups started threatening legal action.

What was withdrawn? Serious stuff. Rioting. Attempts to murder people. Attacks on police and public servants. Damage to government property. Over a hundred people are probably getting a pass because of this.

The government itself admitted the violence was "serious." That’s what the documents said. One of the accused, Akib Ansari , allegedly told the police, “Tum wahi log ho, tumko nahi chodenge." That kind of threat.

The reports detailed more. Officers on duty were attacked with murderous intent. Government vehicles got damaged. There was a mob. Armed with rods, swords, sticks. They allegedly charged from New Ansari Mohalla. Shouting “Allahu Akbar.” A DSP and a constable ended up badly hurt.

This whole thing happened in February 2022. Aland town. All because of the tension around the Dargah. Police had filed multiple FIRs after the clashes.

The controversy just got worse. These riot cases were lumped in with a much bigger batch. Forty-two protest-related cases that the cabinet withdrew. Mostly tied to the farmers’ protests and pro-Kannada agitation. Critics are saying the government just quietly slapped those riot cases onto that list.

The Leader of Opposition, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy , absolutely slammed the decision. He called it appeasement politics by Siddaramaiah. How could they just pull cases that are actually in court?

“These cases have serious charges,” he argued. “They attacked policemen. They burned police vehicles.”

Then there was the reaction from Hindu activists. Hiremath condemned the government’s move. He warned there would be a court battle. He brought up the actual incident. Back in 2022, when people gathered for Shivaratri purification rituals. They were attacked.

Hiremath said they were hit with stones, sticks, and swords by the dargah committee and some Muslim youths there.

“They damaged police vehicles,” he continued. “And they assaulted the Superintendent of Police. Even the vehicle of then Union Minister Bhagwanth Khuba got damaged.”

Hiremath pointed out the police had logged six cases over the violence. Plus another case about the hijab issue. So eight cases in Aland got withdrawn now.

He wrote to the Home Department suggesting innocent people’s cases be dropped. He condemned U.T. Khader’s action. He said they were already gearing up for a legal fight.

The Congress government, though, defended the move. Saleem Ahmed said this wasn't new. He claimed similar withdrawals happened before. Even under the BJP.

“This isn't the first time they withdrew cases,” Ahmed said. “Similar things happened during the BJP government too. It’s not some brand new thing.”

He added that dozens of cases were being looked at. The process followed legal steps. Things happened like this with previous governments too. It just followed procedure.
