CM Joseph Vijay's Trip, Political Tensions, and Legal Shadow

C. Joseph Vijay, the Chief Minister , is heading to Karur on Friday. It’s his first trip there since he took over in May. And this isn't just a routine visit. He’s going to meet the families of those 41 people who died in that terrible stampede at the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam rally back in September 2025.

He’ll be handing out appointment orders. Compassionate grounds, they say. For members of thirty-two families affected by what happened. Appointments across various government departments based on education. It sounds like duty, but there's always something else simmering under these kinds of moves.

The whole thing is dripping with political tension right now. The TVK group has been loud. They’ve alleged that the DMK government tried to block this entire program. Of course, the opposition party just shrugs it off. Denies everything. It’s always a fight about who controls the narrative after something like this happens.

Meanwhile, the talk is shifting to logistics and money too. Vijay is also laying the foundation stone for Evervan Kothari Footwear Private Limited near Manavasi. A big investment 1,700 crore. They figure it could bring employment for about 13,500 people. All happening at the District Collectorate campus. A lot of moving parts.

There’s also a side note coming from the party itself. State Minister N Anand, the TVK General Secretary, put some limits on attendance for things like their "Makkal santhippu" event planned for 11 am. Only five thousand people with QR code passes allowed at that college ground on the Karur-Salem Highway. He just appealed to everyone to stick to the police guidelines.

But there’s the legal shadow hanging over all this. The Supreme Court stepped in, and it wasn't quiet. They dismissed a plea from the DMK trying to stop CM Vijay and other TVK leaders from making public statements or meeting those families.

Justice Viswanathan and Justice Aradhe made it clear. Don’t use the court as some kind of political playground. They questioned the whole premise of the request. And they reminded everyone that a CBI probe was already ordered into this mess.

One of the judges actually asked something pointed. “How does the Supreme Court, which already directed a CBI probe in this matter, accept the plea from a political rival?” The tone felt heavy there. It wasn't about the stampede anymore; it was about who controls the official channels and what sort of interference is happening behind the scenes.

They told the petitioner plainly: don’t push this application further. They dismissed it as withdrawn because they felt there were repercussions people hadn't fully dealt with yet. The court just shut that door. And the pleas went away. It was a stark reminder about where the real power lies, not in courtroom arguments but somewhere else entirely.
