Ram Kapoor, Ageism, and Personal Struggles

Ram Kapoor actually dropped some heavy stuff recently. It wasn't just about acting; it was about how he and his wife Gautami dealt with something really unfair in the industry ageism.

This came out during a private chat, a little tête-à-tête, with co-contestant Akanksha Chamola. The air felt thick with unspoken things.

Akanksha wasn't just sitting there listening. She was asking Ram for help. She said she was planning to live separately from her husband Gaurav Khanna. A real break.

She laid it out kind of plainly, you know? “I am going to be living separately. Alone for my life. I have to set my base completely. So, I will come to you for all my needs.” That’s what she heard him say. It felt desperate, almost a plea.

Ram responded by immediately offering his team. He said he would put everyone on the line to help his friend through it. A big gesture, maybe? Or just typical reaction.

Then things shifted. Akanksha started talking about the age thing. How vital age is in this business. She hit a nerve hard. Once you cross thirty-five, they just see you as too old. It’s that label.

“You know it,” she said, her voice catching slightly. “People don't view our age kindly. Unfortunately, once you hit thirty-five, you get labeled as being too old. You are seen as too old.”

She felt that weight acutely. She added, trying to find footing in the chaos: “I don’t even know the world anymore. I have done what I could. I just hope I can get more work moving forward. Based on that, I can secure my life.”

Ram heard that reflection too. It mirrored something deep inside him and Gautami's experience. He opened up then about how Akanksha’s struggles were actually a mirror of what he and his wife had gone through.

“Gautami and I suffered something similar,” he admitted. “In the beginning, she was also…” He paused there, clearly struggling with the words. “I don’t want to say too much, but what you are going through Gautami has gone through. She is my wife. She’s everything. My love. So, you are entering the exact same situation I have been in. I have seen it all.”

He finished by emphasizing his commitment: “I am telling you, I’ll do whatever I can.”

It’s a strange thing how these things connect. Ram and Akanksha, they’re currently on screen together now. They’re doing that Netflix show, Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa , hosted by Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh.

And of course, the cast is full of names Akanksha Chaudhary, Yogesh Rawat, Sunita Ahuja, Ram Kapoor, Shreya Kalra, Shivangi Joshi, Harshad Chopra, Sufi Motiwala, Dheeraj Dhoopar, Madhuri Jain Grover, Riyaz Aly and Varun Yadav, who goes by Laila. It’s all just people navigating these pressures now.
