Modi’s Trip to Australia and the Growing Partnership

Modi’s trip to Australia... things were moving fast there.

He just wrapped up addressing the India-Australia CEO’s Forum in Melbourne this morning. And of course, Anthony Albanese was there too. It felt like a real moment for that forum, you know? A sign of that economic partnership actually gaining some serious momentum since 2023.

Modi put something out on ‘X’. Something about the growing confidence. He thanked Albanese for joining and sharing what he saw as the vision to take those ties even higher.

Then there were the talks. He spent time with his Australian counterpart today, July 9th. The focus was exactly where you expect it: trade , defense stuff, education , and just people connecting. Trying to strengthen things. Push that Comprehensive Strategic Partnership forward. That’s what this whole visit seems aimed at doing eventually.

He landed in Melbourne on Wednesday as part of a longer tour the second leg of three nations. The airport reception was big. A grand welcome there.

He posted again about landing. Said he looked forward to those talks with Albanese. But it wasn't just the official stuff happening downtown. He also got some interaction with the Indian community living in Melbourne. That felt different. Real.

There were pictures shared of him talking with folks from the diaspora. The post was pretty heartfelt. He mentioned the weather might be cold, but that the warmth of the welcome from the Indian community was unforgettable.

They said their affection and bond with India just keeps growing. A source of real joy and pride, he added. It’s that side of it, I think, that sticks with you more than the trade deals. Just a powerful reminder.
