Heavy Monsoon Rain Causes Widespread Waterlogging and Traffic Chaos in Delhi NCR

Heavy monsoon rain hit Delhi and the entire NCR this morning. It just lashed down. Roads got submerged fast. Traffic snarled up across the region as people tried to navigate the flooded streets.

Videos were circulating from places like Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, even Bulandshahr. You could see exactly how bad the waterlogging was happening. Cars crawling through pools of water. Commuters struggling just to move around. It’s a massive disruption.

The India Meteorological Department actually threw out a red alert for Delhi. Heavy rainfall is expected for most of the day ahead. Authorities are clearly on high alert trying to manage whatever comes next. This warning stretches across Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh until July 10th.

It’s chaos out there. The rain brought some relief from that oppressive humidity we’ve been feeling for days. But that doesn't erase the mess below the surface. Waterlogging is hitting everywhere in the NCR.

In Delhi itself, reports pointed to areas like Burari and Sadar Bazar getting flooded. Even stretches of Mehrauli-Badarpur Road accumulated water after hours of continuous showers. People were seen moving very cautiously through these flooded zones. Traffic slowed down considerably.

You saw visuals on NH-24 near Akshardham Temple too. Long queues of vehicles there during the morning rush hour just stopped dead. That’s how it looked in many spots traffic grinding to a halt because of the water.

Noida wasn't far behind. Sector 75 showed roads submerged after the intense spell. And Ghaziabad? Indirapuram, specifically the Abhay Khand area was flooded with rainwater. Similar scenes popped up in Shastrinagar and Kaushambi. Roads there were just unusable for a while. Delays piling up for everyone trying to get where they needed to be.

Even Bulandshahr felt the impact of the downpour; roads there accumulated water too. The effect is widespread, really across all those areas.

The situation isn't just about standing water. Things happened on the ground during the night as well. PTI reported that two trees got uprooted on Raja Dhir Singh Marg in East of Kailash. That caused some temporary traffic disruption. It’s a small thing, but it adds to the overall mess. The Delhi Fire Service noted one tree collapsed near the ISKCON Temple. Another fell outside the National Heart Institute. Thankfully, no injuries were reported from those incidents.

The government side is scrambling now. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed everything immediately. She directed all agencies to stay on high alert. The Chief Minister’s Office said they are working on a war footing for this waterlogging problem. Teams from PWD, Delhi Jal Board, and MCD have been deployed. They are trying to clear the flooded stretches.

Some of the pre-monsoon desilting work, in places like Narela and Dwarka, actually helped prevent flooding at some spots. Underpasses, like NHPC Chowk, managed to stay mostly open despite the heavy rain. It’s a mixed picture, you know? Some small fixes help, but the scale of this is huge.

The IMD keeps forecasting more rain throughout the day. So monitoring stays intense. Waterlogging and traffic jams remain major concerns across Delhi and the whole NCR right now. It just keeps unfolding.
