Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey World Premiere and Critical Reception

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey just had its world premiere in London, and the reactions are honestly huge. Critics are calling it his finest work yet. People are raving about the scale, the performances it feels like one of those massive cinematic moments we talk about all year.

The whole thing kicked off on Monday in London. Nolan was there, obviously, with the cast, crew, and a bunch of critics from the US and UK hanging around the red carpet. And right after they watched it? Social media exploded. The consensus is just overwhelmingly positive.

You hear some seriously strong takes. Erik Davis from Rotten Tomatoes basically called it an absolute triumph, a crowning achievement for Nolan. He said it feels like everything Nolan has been chasing with IMAX finally came together here. The production design is incredible. The action, breathtaking. The sheer scale is unlike anything he’s done before.

But it wasn't just the spectacle. Davis got into some really interesting territory too. He mentioned how much Nolan embraces horror elements from Homer. Some parts are genuinely unsettling, adding a whole new layer to his filmmaking, but they never lose sight of that core human stuff at the heart of Odysseus’ journey.

And the cast? It’s stacked. Everyone gets a chance to shine. Anne Hathaway is just incredible. Matt Damon is excellent too. Tom Holland keeps proving he can handle anything. But Robert Pattinson… wow. He absolutely stole the show for me. He leans all the way into that villainy, and it's endlessly entertaining to watch. It’s one of my favorite performances, honestly.

Collider’s Peri Nemiroff felt something similar. She called it a filmmaking feast. A grand, gripping version of Homer’s epic. And she said it feels uniquely Nolan. Hard to imagine anyone else bringing that source material to the screen with this much scope and heart.

One thing everyone seemed to latch onto was how Nolan handled the supernatural stuff in the original text. Critics noticed he embraced those moments without losing grip on Odysseus actually trying to get home. It worked, I guess.

So, who are we talking about? Matt Damon is Odysseus, of course. Trying to find his way back to Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway, and their son Telemachus, played by Tom Holland. There’s a whole crew involved too Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal. A ton of talent in there.

And technically? This was huge for Nolan. The Odyssey is the first narrative feature shot entirely on IMAX cameras. He told Empire that they used over two million feet of film during those ninety-one days of shooting. That’s a massive milestone.

Now, about when you can see it here. It hits theaters in India on July 17, 2026. Same day as the worldwide release. English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu IMAX screens are included.
