Disruption Caused by Rain and Landslide Affects Rail and Roads

This disruption isn't just about cars. The downpour is still hammering the region, and it’s affecting rail too.

The India Meteorological Department had already sounded an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Palghar, warning of heavy to very heavy rain, plus gusty winds blowing through everything. Naturally, authorities followed up by declaring a holiday for schools and colleges in those districts on Monday. Everyone was told to stay put.

But the trouble wasn't confined to the roads. The railway lines also took a serious hit following that same landslide event.

The Central Railway confirmed where exactly the damage was done, pointing to the Up Main Line of the Mumbai Division. The slide happened somewhere between Thakurvadi and Monkey Hill Loop Cabin. That blockage affected the Up Main Line itself, but it rippled through the Middle Line and the Up Line too. It’s a mess.

Restoration work is obviously underway now, but for anyone planning to travel, the railway folks are asking people to check the latest train status before even thinking about starting a journey.

Because of all this chaos the flooded roads and the blocked tracks things got canceled. Sixteen trains scheduled for Monday had to be scrapped. We’re talking things like the CSMT–Pune Indrayani Express , the Pune–Solapur Intercity Express , and several other regional services that were supposed to run through this bottleneck.

Eight trains scheduled for Sunday also couldn't make it. They got diverted through completely different alternative routes.

MSRDC specifically asked motorists not to use that route until they get fresh directions. The Central Railway is just stressing checking schedules before heading out, because this whole restoration process in the rain-soaked ghat section is taking time. It’s slow going.
