Explosions and Denials Across Southern Iran

Explosions happened across southern Iran. Near Bushehr, right by that nuclear facility, according to Iranian media reports from Thursday, July 9th. People were worried about what was going on. But then you have the denial. The United States said they weren't involved. And Tehran hasn't pinned any blame on any country for these blasts.

Then there’s the specific detail coming through, citing AFP and Iranian state media: a projectile, something US-Israeli, hit a military headquarters just outside Bushehr. That’s where Iran’s only civilian nuclear plant sits. It just happened.

Ehsan Jahanian, he’s the Deputy Governor of Bushehr province. He said several spots were targeted today. The perimeter of the power plant itself. A military base in Choghadak town. Even a fishing pier down south in the province. No deaths reported by him. Just explosions.

It feels weird timing, doesn't it? These blasts came just hours after they laid out their Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, at the Imam Reza shrine, that holiest spot for them, on Friday. Everything seems to be happening in a very specific sequence.

Meanwhile, there were other spots too. Mehr News Agency reported three more explosions later on, in Konarak, down in the south. Just continuing the pattern.

The US side of things is another story entirely. They responded to these reports with statements. A US official told Al Jazeera that their forces had nothing to do with the latest attack. They weren't responsible for it.

But this isn’t an isolated event. Earlier this week, there were those big strikes. The ones the US called a "series of powerful strikes." They launched them after Tehran allegedly attacked three commercial ships running through the Strait of Hormuz.

The official line from the military command was pretty clear then. They said the whole operation was meant to "impose heavy costs for targeting and attacking commercial shipping." It was about shipping lanes, they claimed.

That statement basically put Iran in a bad light. The US pointed out that their strikes were a reaction. That Iran’s aggression that was seen as unwarranted. Dangerous. A clear breaking of the ceasefire. Just pure reaction then.

It’s all tangled up. Explosions here. Strikes there. Demeans and denials everywhere. It just moves fast, doesn't it? You watch the reports, and you can’t quite settle on one thing.
