Mamata Banerjee's Accusations and Political Fallout with the BJP

Mamata Banerjee threw some serious accusations at the BJP . She claimed they were specifically targeting party leaders. Think Abhishek Banerjee , Mahua Moitra , Kalyan Banerjee .

She basically told them that if they wanted to keep her quiet, they’d have to kill her. That kind of threat hangs heavy.

This came out in a video message, something about the growing crisis inside the Trinamool . It was all tied up with the recent mess after the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Election. She offered some sort of ‘best wishes’ to those who didn't defect, but there was clear implication about those who chose the BJP path.

She went straight for the jugular on the ruling party. “To silence me,” she said plainly, “you would have to kill me. Yes, you didn’t spare any effort on that.” It felt less like a political statement and more like raw anger spilling out.

The harassment allegations followed quickly. She pointed fingers at who had been assaulted. Mahua , Abhishek , Kalyan she mentioned attacking them, even mentioning her home. That part just sounds messy. A lot of personal stuff mixed in with the big politics.

Then there was the bigger claim about how they won. Banerjee alleged that the BJP came to power by “looting votes” and messing around with the entire process, calling it rigging the SIR . Special Intensive Revision. It’s a loaded phrase.

She continued, talking about the counting centres. They seized those using central forces. Hijacked them. But she insisted they let the new government take over. Said the real truth would surface eventually. That they had the evidence.

This all happened while things were already boiling internally in the TMC . A wave of defections hit hard after the election results came out.

It wasn't just Banerjee talking, though. There was movement happening behind the scenes. After the poll results, a bunch of MLAs actually broke away from the party. Ritabrata Banerjee led that move. He pushed for Leader of Opposition in the state assembly.

Then you had the MPs. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and others made moves too. They wrote to Om Birla , the Speaker, supporting the BJP -led NDA at the Centre. Some of them then jumped ship entirely, joining the NCPI , which is an ally of the NDA based in Tripura.

Meanwhile, other leaders were voicing opposition against the TMC leadership, especially Abhishek Banerjee . There were whispers about corruption inside the party too. It’s always those kinds of things simmering beneath the surface.

Days later, some Rajya Sabha MPs decided to make a move for themselves. Sukhendu Shekhar Ray , Sushmita Dev , and Prakash Chik Baraik . They joined the BJP on Thursday. And hours after that? They were named candidates for the bypolls coming up in July. The BJP 's Central Election Committee announced their names once those three leaders showed up at the Salt Lake office with Samik Bhattacharya and other big names present. Just moving things along, you know?
