Controversy: Pranit More, Samay Raina, and the Biryani Joke Incident

Pranit More’s crowd-work video from his recent stand-up show really caused a stir. It brought controversy because of some derogatory remarks made under the guise of comedy. We’re talking about that whole Rs 370 biryani joke row.

Meanwhile, social media is buzzing about Samay Raina . He stepped in to shut down a misogynistic remark during the latest episode of India’s Got Latent . It felt like a necessary intervention.

That show aired on June 20th. Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Ashish Solanki, and Balraj Ghai were guests that time. During the segment, Samay asked the audience something kind of pointed: “What does a girl like the most in a guy?” One person threw out “Paisa (money).” Laughter followed. But then Alia jumped in fast. She asked who said that?

Samay hit back hard. He quipped, “Gareeb aadmi ne kaha hoga” (Some broke man must have said that). That comeback got everyone laughing. The panelists and the audience were ROFL about it.

But this wasn't just about Samay then. Fans started comparing things. They pointed fingers at Pranit More while hailing Samay Raina instead. You saw comments like, “Pranit More should learn from Samay Raina.” Another one just said, “Pranit More, take notes!” And then there was that weird observation: “Meanwhile, Pranit – PEAK GURGAON CONTENT.”

So what actually happened during Pranit’s show? It started when audience member Himanshu Jangra got invited into a conversation. He brought up dating. Specifically, taking a woman out and spending about Rs 370 on biryani. The real issue wasn't the food cost itself. It was his suggestion that because he paid for the meal, he expected intimacy in return.

That’s what really sparked the outrage among viewers watching the clip later. People accused Jangra of treating dating like a transaction. Reducing a woman to something you could “earn” just by spending money on a meal.

As the criticism piled up, More eventually addressed it. He put out a video statement on Saturday. He acknowledged his part in amplifying those comments. He expressed regret over how the situation had unfolded.

He explained why he was quiet for so long. His Instagram account had been suspended. That stopped him from responding sooner. He admitted that while interacting with that audience member during the crowd-work segment, some nasty comments definitely came out. But the atmosphere in the room the laughter it influenced his reaction, he said. It made things happen differently.
