Fire Rips Through Naphtha Pipeline Near West Bengal Refinery

At least thirty people got hurt after this huge fire ripped through a naphtha pipeline near an oil refinery in West Bengal’s Haldia district early Tuesday morning. It just started things off badly.

The whole blaze kicked off in Chiranjibpur, right under Ward No. 13 of the Haldia Municipality. Panic immediately set in across the locality. A senior police officer from East Midnapore told us that six people are already in critical condition. They’re being rushed to a hospital in Kolkata for specialized care.

Firefighters hit the scene hard. They launched a massive operation just trying to contain the flames. Nine fire engines were thrown at it. Trying to bring everything under control.

It wasn't just the pipeline. The fire jumped over, spreading to nearby houses too. Several of them? Reduced to ash. It was grim.

As for the railway lines, things ground to a halt. Train services on the Haldia-Panskura route were suspended instantly. Authorities had to shut that down while they dealt with the emergency.

Haldia Petrochemicals finally confirmed something happened at their facility. They said a few people were injured, naturally. Their holding statement was pretty standard: "Our thoughts are with those affected, and we are extending all necessary support to the concerned authorities."

But then there’s the kicker. Preliminary info suggests this whole mess might have started near an unauthorized naphtha theft point right near the plant itself. That kind of stuff happens.

They stressed that naphtha is incredibly flammable a highly combustible hydrocarbon. The company has always warned local folks about accessing or handling petroleum products because the safety risks are just too high. Seriously dangerous.

The exact cause? That’s still being looked into, coordinating with the authorities. They won't jump to conclusions yet. It would be premature to assign blame until they finish investigating everything. Safety is apparently their absolute top priority right now. They promised updates when verified info comes in.

Meanwhile, the crews are still working. Firefighting and rescue operations continue at the site. The investigation, though that’s ongoing. It’s a long road ahead for figuring out what really went wrong here.
