Randeep Hooda on Career Advice from Salman Khan

Randeep Hooda talked about some career advice he got from Salman Khan. It’s interesting stuff. He admitted that even though he thought it was good guidance, he didn't actually follow it.

He always preferred exploring different characters. Not sticking to one specific look on screen. That’s what he felt was right for him.

When talking to The Hollywood Reporter India , he brought up how both Salman Khan and his dad pushed him toward playing heroic roles. They thought keeping a consistent image would help build a strong star persona. A certain kind of film, you know?

“His main advice,” Randeep recalled, “was not taking on roles where I didn’t look heroic. It’s good advice… My father aGreed. He said, ‘You should look the same and do the same kind of roles, which will help earn an image and become a star.’”

But that wasn't what he chose.

He explained why. Playing the same thing over and over? That felt boring. It was something he definitely didn’t want to do. He needed new challenges. Every project should push him. Let him evolve as a performer, that was the goal.

“I just felt like repeatedly playing the same stuff is tedious,” he said. “That wasn't something I wanted.”

He actually talked about his acting process too. He feels it’s a compliment when people say they can’t easily imitate him. How he does it changing his voice, the rhythm, how he delivers lines he adjusts everything for every character. Making each performance feel completely different.

Still, he acknowledged the point about having a recognizable image helping you become a star. But that wasn't his main focus. It was keeping things fresh over the years. Not sticking to some fixed formula. He doesn’t regret taking a different path. He’s still open to whatever comes next.

He pushed back slightly on the idea of needing a fixed mold. “I am not saying it’s not a great thing,” he mused. “But how do you stay fresh? Would you just start doing things automatically? Would the gym be the only place you practice?” He paused there. “So, I didn't follow that advice.”

He ended with a little bit of uncertainty. “However, you never know what lies in the future,” he added.

For context, Randeep Hooda and Salman Khan have shared some screen time before. Think Kick back in 2014. Then Sultan in 2016. And Radhe in 2021. Just a few examples of where they’ve worked together.
