Cocktail 2 Rumors: Inside the Queer Speculation and On-Set Reality

It turned out that there was some noise swirling around Cocktail 2 . A lot of talk about what the film might be about, right? Especially regarding Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna . Some reports floated around suggesting they were queer, or maybe even exploring something more intimate in the movie.
But the cast and the makers stepped in pretty quickly to shut that down. They basically said, no nonsense. There is absolutely no lesbian story there. That’s what they made clear.
Kriti Sanon herself spoke up at a promotional event about it. She just stated plainly, “There is no lesbian story.” And Rashmika laughed, which felt kind of genuine, but she immediately followed up by saying, “But we do have that chemistry.” It sounds like the focus was shifted right away from identity to the undeniable spark between them.
Then Kriti brought it back to the specifics about the dynamic. She added something pretty direct: “There are three straight people, guys, relax. It’s an emotional film; there is no physical threesome.” There’s a definite attempt there to frame it as purely a story of deep emotion rather than physical exploration, you know?
Rashmika seemed to back her up. She basically told everyone, “Watch the film, guys. You will enjoy.” It felt like they were trying to manage expectations, pushing away the sensational speculation with something more grounded.
The whole situation was complicated by those rumors starting in the first place. Some people had been making claims that Kriti and Rashmika might be queer characters in this sequel. That kind of chatter always seems to start somewhere. So where did all that speculation actually come from?
When Rashmika was asked directly about the linking of her and Kriti as a couple during the trailer launch, Kriti made an observation. She suggested that these rumors seemed to stem from a single source. And Rashmika aGreed with that sentiment. It felt like they were both trying to point toward a common origin for this chatter.
It got interesting when director Homi Adajania stepped in to explain where the idea actually originated. He said it was right there on set. He explained, “This is where the rumour came from. We were all sitting on the set…” It’s that kind of context you get when things are being talked about behind closed doors, a little bit of casual thinking bleeding into the professional space.
He elaborated a bit more, admitting that Kriti and Rashmika definitely had some cuddly moments because they were friends. That was the reality on the ground. But then he mused hypothetically, wondering what if the story pivoted? What if it was about them, and Shahid Kapoor was just the third wheel? He even admitted, “And I said I wouldn’t mind making a movie like that.” It shows how creative thought can wander, even while working on a script.
Producer Dinesh Vijan then stepped in to try and settle things down from the business side. He clarified the narrative structure for everyone involved. He laid out what was actually planned: “So there are two love stories. Purana love and naya love and ye Luv (Ranjan). Aur kuchh nahi hai kisi ka love nahi hai is picture mein.” It’s a very clear, almost deliberately simple way of saying that the focus stays on established emotional connections within the film, not introducing new sexual dynamics into the core story.
It seems the consensus among the leads was to keep the focus squarely on the existing relationships and the emotional arc they were building with Saif Ali Khan , Deepika Padukone , and Diana Penty’s original work. The energy felt directed toward honoring what was already there rather than chasing speculative narratives.
And you know, all this discussion about internal dynamics aside, the practical reality is that Cocktail 2 is coming soon. It’s set to hit theaters on June 19th. Naturally, fans are buzzing right now. They really want to see what comes next from that film. People are eager to see if this sequel manages to build on the legacy of Saif Ali Khan , Deepika Padukone , and Diana Penty’s original work. There's a definite anticipation hanging in the air as the release date gets closer. It just feels like more storytelling is inevitable now.
