India Edges Out Pakistan 4-3 in Pulsating FIH Pro League Encounter

India edged out Pakistan 4-3 in what was a really pulsating FIH Pro League encounter on Tuesday. It extended their decade-long undefeated run against their arch-rivals in international hockey, and that just carries some weight.

The victory itself lifted India to seventh place in the standings. That came in the first meeting between the two teams since the 2024 Asian Champions Trophy back in China. Remember that? Harmanpreet Singh’s team had won 2-1 there. A different kind of pressure, maybe.

Pakistan got the first shot early on though. They struck first in the eighth minute. Ahmad Nadeem converted a penalty corner and suddenly they had the lead. It was fast.

But India didn't just sit back. They responded quickly. In the twenty-second minute, Abhishek pounced on a rebound after Dilpreet Singh’s effort got saved. Things started shifting then.

India really took control of the game from there. Nilakanta Sharma put them ahead in the twenty-fourth minute, another penalty corner rebound gave them the 2-1 lead. Then Sukhjeet Singh extended that advantage later, in the fortyth minute. A clinical field goal, set up by Abhishek that felt huge.

Rajinder Singh added a fourth for India in the final quarter. It came from a penalty corner routine in the fifty-second minute. Harmanpreet was playing a decoy just before that, setting things up nicely.

Pakistan tried to fight back late though. Abu Mahmood managed to reduce the deficit in the fifty-third minute with another penalty corner. Moin Shakeel struck again in the final seconds. Four-three. It looked like they were going to pull off something big there. But India held firm. They sealed that win over Pakistan.

The game started pretty cautiously at first, you know? Both teams traded early circle entries before Pakistan managed to draw first blood. India just kept growing into it, generating several penalty corners late in the opening quarter. But the keeper Ali Raza was there, denying them a few times.

By halftime, though, India had that lead of 2-1. They seemed to dominate the second quarter completely. Amit Rohidas stood out too; he made a crucial intervention stopping a dangerous counter-attack from Nadeem. It kept things tight, even when it got intense.

Even with Pakistan’s spirited comeback in those final minutes, India’s earlier dominance just proved decisive. They bagged a hard-fought three points in what turned into a real thriller. PTI inputs were there for that stuff.</p
