Crackdown on Fire Safety Rules in Delhi-NCR Targeting Coaching Centers

Authorities in Delhi-NCR started a crackdown on fire safety rules on Tuesday. They sealed about sixty places across Noida and Ghaziabad.

This happened right after that terrible fire in Lucknow’s Aliganj area. It killed fifteen people. Just fifteen lives lost.

Most of the spots they shut down were coaching centers. That’s what they were targeting. Officials said two coaching institutes in Noida got shut immediately. Then, 56 places in Ghaziabad got sealed. This included play schools and some dispensaries too. All because they just weren't following the fire safety rules.

The story about Lucknow is heavy. A massive blaze hit a three-storey commercial building on Usha Mehta Marg on Monday afternoon. It started around three in the afternoon. Smoke poured out, chaos followed. Panic spread quickly in the neighbourhood. Several students were trapped upstairs in an animation training institute. Eyewitnesses said some people just jumped from the building to escape the heat.

The building itself housed an animation training institute and a pet shop. Most of those caught in the fire were young students.

Meanwhile, back in the NCR area, things were moving differently. The Ghaziabad Development Authority, GDA, did a survey across the district. They found 206 places operating without the necessary fire no-objection certificates NOCs.

During that Tuesday drive, they sealed fifty-six of those violating establishments. Why? Because they couldn't produce the required NOCs. The GDA media coordinator, Rudresh Shukla, said they were just checking for these safety certificates. They are sending notices to the fire department too. Action needs to be taken based on the rules.

Officials in Ghaziabad mentioned that if things weren’t submitted or formalities weren't met, sealing action would happen. That was the administration’s statement. A warning thrown out.

In Noida, there were specific targets too. They sealed Om Education Coaching Centre in Sector 149. It was found operating without registration or a fire safety certificate. Another coaching institute in Sector 49 faced the same fate.

Those two institutes are now facing pressure. They have to show up before the District Inspector of Schools within two days. They need to submit all their records. The DIOS, Chandra Shekhar from Gautam Budh Nagar, said inspections would keep going across the district. He stressed that this campaign against coaching centers running without safety standards will continue.

Officials in Ghaziabad also promised recommendations for further action wherever they found these fire violations among coaching centers. It’s a complicated situation unfolding right now. The link between the tragedy and these regulatory checks feels unavoidable, you know?
