Donald Trump's Statements on Trade, Tariffs, and Foreign Policy

Donald Trump brought up a lot of things Tuesday in eastern Pennsylvania, mostly talking about trade and jobs. He claimed his administration managed the biggest cut in the US trade deficit ever sixty-seven percent, he said.

“We have the biggest trade deficit cut in the history of our country. Sixty-seven percent!” that was the line.

He immediately tied this to what he did with tariffs. He argued those policies were why factories started being built. Tariffs helped domestic manufacturing, he insisted.

Then there’s the big point about standing up for things abroad. Trump said his administration adopted a really aggressive trade policy once they got back into office.

“I stood up to the trade cheaters, abusers, and violators of the world like no President has ever before,” he claimed. He brought up Iran too. The reason was nuclear weapons. “Now I am standing up again because Iran can not have a nuclear weapon.”

He then dove into the specific actions taken. He mentioned placing tariffs fifty percent on foreign copper, aluminum, and steel. Then there were the cars and trucks. A twenty-five percent tariff on foreign automobiles, and another twenty-five percent slapped on medium and heavy duty trucks. The goal was clear: “American Roads will be filled with American Trucks.”

At the same time, he shifted gears to employment in Pennsylvania. He announced fresh job numbers. Tens of thousands created. Specifically, thirty-two thousand new jobs in the state. That included two thousand six hundred manufacturing positions. He claimed more Americans were working today than ever before in US history.

And then there was the fuel situation. He touched on declining prices. The average price of gasoline nationwide dropped by sixty cents a gallon just recently. But he didn't let that sit there for long. He contrasted it with past administrations, especially when talking about Iran and its nuclear program.

He took aim at media coverage too. He suggested the press failed to acknowledge America’s military position regarding the conflict. There was this comment about flying over Tehran, just at will. Nobody would stop them. Then he noted the fake news they were pushing about Iran doing well he said they weren't. A lot of press attention, he lamented.

He then swung back to criticizing former presidents. Barack Obama came up in the conversation regarding his Iran policy. Trump brought up some cash flow too. “Obama gave them $1.7 billion in Green cash on a 747! Piles of cash!” He suggested they just thought they could bribe their way to peace.

The real focus, he seemed to land on, was force. The only thing the other side understood, he argued, is the HAMMER . That’s what mattered.
