The Success and Financial Hurdles of Deool Band 2

Pravin Tarde’s Deool Band 2 is just one of those big Marathi cinema stories this year. It really blew up.

They reported the budget was around eight to ten crore rupees. But look at where it landed. Box office numbers already shot past eighty crore. It's now one of the top five grossing Marathi films ever. Huge success.

But there was a snag before all that money started flowing in. A real financial hurdle they faced. And Shah Rukh Khan got involved, sort of helping get it to the screen.

Pravin Tarde actually shared how this happened. He said SRK stepped in at a crucial moment.

It was about the Digital Cinema Package, or DCP. That digital format you need for theaters. The makers had gone to Red Chillies Entertainment, Shah Rukh’s production house, asking for it.

They thought they were looking at a small cost. About twelve lakh rupees initially budgeted just for that process. But then the estimate came back nearly forty-two lakh. That was a massive worry. Money wasn't there. No source to arrange it.

Tarde recounted the situation clearly. “The bill hit forty-two lakh,” he said. “We didn’t have that kind of cash, and nowhere to get it. We approached Red Chillies. We explained everything. It was a regional film. Our budget was tight. But we needed to release it big time.”

And that request somehow landed with Shah Rukh Khan.

He asked his technical team about the film, you see. They told him it came from the makers of Mulshi Pattern . Which connects back because Mulshi Pattern later became Salman’s Antim . SRK knew that work. He looked into Deool Band 2 . His team said it was a solid emotional film. The makers needed the DCP, but couldn't afford the cost yet. It was ready to go; just stuck pending because of those outstanding dues.

SRK’s reaction was fast. Just… “Waive off their bill.” He told them they should give the DCP. Said they could sort out the payments later. If it was a good film, they needed to release it. There was real respect there for Marathi cinema. For him, the movie mattered more than the money.

Tarde remains deeply grateful. He said he was grateful when the commercial fate of the film was totally unknown. Shah Rukh helped them without any guarantee of success. That gesture sticks with him.

“Today,” Tarde reflected, “it’s heading toward one hundred crore. Everyone is celebrating it now. But what happened when the film was nothing? When nobody knew if it would work out? That moment, that help that will always be remembered.” He added he would love to screen it for Shah Rukh himself someday.

The numbers speak for themselves now. Industry trackers show Deool Band 2 has made close to eighty-one crore at the Indian box office already. Considering they only budgeted eight or ten crore, that run is just staggering. It’s a huge statement about regional cinema hitting massive success.
