WBJEE 2026 Results and Counseling Updates

The WBJEE 2026 results finally dropped, only twenty-six days after the actual test. It was kind of a surprise too, setting up exam centers in Bengal and actually some other states this time around. The merit list? It pulled names from all over Kolkata and different districts scattered around.

The board figures came out: twelve lakh eighty-five thousand candidates registered for this year's attempt. But how many showed up? Only ninety-four thousand nine hundred and one people actually sat for the exam. That’s about seventy-eight point five percent turnout.

Among those who appeared, some were male sixty-seven thousand and a bit fewer females, twenty-seven thousand five hundred and twenty-one. And then the passing rate... ninety-two thousand seven hundred and fifty-three candidates cleared it. That means almost ninety-seven point seven four percent passed overall.

West Bengal represented a big chunk here; seventy-three thousand six hundred and sixty-five candidates came from there, which is nearly eighty percent of the group. The rest, outside the state, accounted for eighteen thousand eight hundred and eight people. A decent split, I guess.

Then you get to the actual rankings. Top ten holders:

  • Shashwat Banerjee from Salt Lake, Nalanda Academy leads the pack at number one.
  • Then Sauriddha Mandal in Bishnupur, Vivekananda Mission School, Joka takes second place.
  • Umang Bhoot, Raniganj, East International School is third.
  • Rahul Konar from Newtown, Delhi Public School was fourth.
  • Sarban Bhattacharya, Bijpur, Garden High School sits at fifth.
  • Arha Bhattacharya from Chandrakona, Chandrakona Ziraat High School, ranked sixth.
  • Srijan Shur in Shibpur, South Point High School is seventh.
  • Manish Senapati, Kotwali, West Midnapore, was eighth.
  • And finally, Sabyasachi Laskar from Sonarpur, BDM International, took the tenth spot.
  • Debjit Pal in Ballygunge, South Point High School finished tenth.

Gautam Pal, the Joint Entrance Board Chairman, weighed in on the whole thing. He said results were declared exactly twenty-five days later. But there was stuff going on behind the scenes, things they wanted to flag before this announcement. They introduced some special measures for this exam. You got to take a copy of the OMR sheet home; the board kept the rest. Free-scoring was allowed this time too. And yeah, certain items were banned during the test itself.

They gave out the answer key, and you had a chance to challenge it. Everyone did that same thing with the key tomorrow. The final results came after those challenges were factored in. It’s all a bit messy now.

Counselling is supposed to start by the end of this month. That’s the big change. Before, if you applied somewhere, you couldn't register again once you did, and choice filling was only allowed once. Now things are different. Registration can happen three times. Choice filling? Three chances now. It’s the first time they’re running this system, implementing it all at once. Things are definitely shifting for the candidates.
