Uttar Pradesh School Holidays Extended and Board Recognition Status Cancelled

The heat is just relentless. That’s why the Uttar Pradesh government decided to push back the school summer holidays. It’s now extended until June 24th.

Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary for Basic and Secondary Education, issued the order. The vacation timeframe shifted: May 20th through June 24th. Regular classes are set to kick off again on June 25th. Things got a little extended, you know?

This whole move came down from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Safety , health , and keeping the kids educated that’s what they cited as the main reason. Rising temperatures across the state just felt too intense for everyone right now. Officials said this extension is meant to bring some sort of uniformity to the academic calendar. Stop district administrations from having to keep messing with holiday schedules because of the severe heat waves.

And what does that mean practically? Teachers, Shiksha Mitras, instructors everyone gets a break until June 24th. They’ll be back in school running from June 22nd to June 24th for final prep work. There’s also this plan for mass yoga sessions with students and teachers on June 21st, marking International Yoga Day.

During those few days off, things still need managing. Teaching duties means a lot of groundwork: lesson planning. Sorting out the mid-day meal programme logistics. Distributing textbooks. School management committee meetings. And you can’t forget the physical stuff cleaning up school premises, kitchens, restrooms, making sure sports equipment is ready for when things resume. It's a huge amount of operational work crammed into that extended break.

They stressed compliance with the Right to Education Act throughout this whole process. That act demands 220 working days and regular teaching activities every session. Seems like they are trying to keep the educational rhythm going despite all this heat-driven shuffling.

UP Board of Secondary Education Cancels Recognition for 465 Schools

But there’s another piece of news happening, something entirely separate but hitting the board hard. Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education made a big call about recognition status. They cancelled the recognition for 465 schools in the state. This wasn't random. It targeted places where no student showed up for the high school or intermediate board exams over the last two academic years.

The UP Board Secretary Bhagwati Singh issued that order. The logic is pretty straightforward, if you follow it. Not a single student from those institutions participated in either the 2024-25 or the 2025-26 board examinations. Because of this lack of participation, their recognition got automatically revoked under the Intermediate Education Act, 1921.

Board officials clarified something important about that process. Schools need to keep doing academic stuff. They have to maintain student attendance. If a recognized high school or intermediate institution just sits there no students showing up for two straight years, no classes held they lose recognition automatically. It’s a tough line they are drawing on these administrative fronts.
