Modi-Zelenskyy Talks and G7 Support for Ukraine

Modi met Zelenskyy during the G7 summit in Évian, France. It wasn’t just a formality though. They talked about cooperation. Trade ties. And trying to find some peace amidst all that mess happening over in Ukraine and Russia.
S. Jaishankar and Ajit Doval were there too. External Affairs Minister and National Security Advisor. Just showing up.
After the talks, Modi posted something on X. You know how it is. Saying India and Ukraine have been engaging a lot lately. Cooperation expanding everywhere. They reviewed those bilateral ties again. Figured they needed to push things further.
Modi said trade needs fixing. Back to what it was before the war started. That’s the core of it, isn't it? The economic side getting completely messed up by the conflict.
He kept stressing his stance on the whole situation. Always peace. Putting humanity above everything else. A familiar line, but always heavy with implication when things are this tense.
The meeting happened right when the G7 leaders were talking about support for Ukraine. They weren't just sitting around; they were pledging more military and money to Kyiv. That context hung over the whole thing.
The G7 heads actually put it out formally at the summit. Unwavering support. Praising Ukraine’s sheer grit during this long, awful fight. Resilience. That was what came out of that declaration. They stood together for it.
They talked about bolstering defenses. Air defense systems. Interceptors. Long-range ammo. Things needed to keep up. And they also talked about letting Ukraine build its own military stuff. Domestic production. That part felt really important, you know? Energy too. Keeping the lights on through winter. Practical stuff bleeding into high politics.
Then there was the pressure angle. They aGreed to ramp up the squeeze on Moscow. Sanctions targeting oil and gas. Trying to make Russia pay for what they were doing. Direct action on the economic front.
There was also that bit about other peace efforts popping up, which is always happening in these big gatherings. The announcement about a deal between the US and Iran. G7 leaders seemed hopeful there. That renewed diplomacy might actually help shift things somewhere. Maybe contribute to ending this whole war in Ukraine. A flicker of hope amidst the grim reality.
It’s all just moving. A lot of threads pulling. Between high-level talks and backroom pressure. You see that constant push and pull happening everywhere now. Just trying to manage the chaos unfolding on the screen while people are sitting there talking about treaties and trade routes and survival. It feels less like a clean story and more like just managing the immediate fallout.
