Noida International Airport Launch Sparks Debate Over Cab Fares and Regional Utility

The Noida International Airport in Jewar finally started flying operations Monday, June 15th. A big deal for air travel connecting to the whole National Capital Region .

But right when everyone was celebrating the launch, something else popped up online. People were talking about cab fares from that new airport over to Delhi.

It’s all situated in Jewar , way over in Gautam Buddh Nagar district . Prime Minister Modi actually inaugurated it back on March 28th. It means we have a second international gateway for Delhi-NCR now. After the Indira Gandhi Airport , obviously.

But then this happened online. Someone posted a screenshot of an Uber estimate. Trip from Jewar airport to Saket in South Delhi. The user wrote something like, "This is Uber from Jewar airport to Saket." And the fare shown? It crossed two thousand rupees.

Uber Go was listed at 2018.83 . XL was almost three thousand . Premium shot up to 2418.94 . They didn't even specify when they were checking these prices, just the numbers floating there.

The post caught fire fast. Some people were clearly surprised by the cost. But then others immediately jumped in. They started arguing about whether it was actually expensive or not, given the distance.

One person pointed out the geography: Jewar to Saket is only about 80 kilometers . Seriously? One user commented something like, "Do a real job. Two thousand for eighty kilometers is way too cheap. It’ll cost fifteen thousand in New York." Another one just shrugged, saying it seemed reasonable for an Uber ride.

Then the argument got sharper. Someone else brought up context about where people actually live. They asked, "Why would you fly to Jewar if you already live near Saket?" There was a clear sense that this airport wasn't designed for everyone living in Delhi proper. It felt like it was only for folks near the Yamuna Expressway .

"I don't think Jewar is really for people living in Delhi," someone remarked. "It’s just for people who live by the expressway."

There was a strong pushback against this idea. Some commented that everyone knows where they are going. The primary airport will always be IGI. Why build something new if it doesn't serve the actual need? One person suggested every big infrastructure spend isn't really aimed at the metropolitan elite.

Meanwhile, someone else brought up a local comparison. "Even NIAL to Indirapuram is costing seventeen hundred to two thousand INR," they said. So why would this Jewar option be any better for people living in Noida itself?

Then came another counterpoint. A user shared something about flights instead. They showed that the cheapest flight from Gwalior to Delhi was only around Rs 2,199 . That felt like a much cheaper alternative than whatever these local cab prices were suggesting. It just muddied the water on why people should bother with this new route at all.
