Kala Hiran Controversy: Legal Battles and Legacy in Filmmaking

Govind Namdev has pulled back from Kala Hiran. It’s all about legacy now, you know?
The film itself is based on that whole blackbuck poaching thing from 1998. Amit Jani produced it. Namdev was in it, playing the advocate trying to fight for justice for the Bishnoi community.
Things got messy after they dropped that first look teaser. Suddenly, there were big arguments popping up about Salman Khan references. That’s where the trouble started.
Then Namdev said he didn't know the real story behind what Kala Hiran was actually going to be. He felt kept in the dark about the whole intent. Not surprising, maybe. But then Jani sent him a legal notice. Demanding an apology within seven days and slapping a fifty lakh fine on the production house.
Bharat S Shrinate, the director, is now the one talking to News18 about this row. He’s trying to manage it all.
He told us something pretty guarded when speaking to Amar Ujala. He said he respected the senior artist, but since it was a legal thing, he didn't want to comment much on it. He basically shut down the drama. But there was one clear line: he wouldn’t knowingly be part of a film against Khan.
Later on, Namdev brought up something else entirely. He claimed the project had first been called Sambhal . Another story hanging around.
Meanwhile, Sonu Mmishra, who acted with Khan in Sikandar , has his own take. He said he was offered the lead role in Kala Hiran, supposedly based on that superstar character. But he bailed after shooting for just a couple of days. A quick exit.
The makers apparently wanted him to speak out against Khan publicly as part of the project. That’s what Shrinate asserted. But then Shrinate said he never even heard of Mmishra. He hadn't seen him on set. “Is he an actor? I didn’t see him,” Shrinate remarked. He went on, kind of rambling here. “Garam tel mein log pakode talna chahte hai. The protagonist is Kashif Iqbal Khan.”
Shooting the film itself was apparently a ‘very good experience.’ Everyone seemed to have a decent time. That's what really threw Namdev off balance with his claims.
Shrinate countered that they got cooperation from everyone. Mukesh Tiwari, and even Namdev ji. Everyone worked well. Sabne achche se kaam kara hai.
And on the legal side, Khan himself has gone to the Delhi High Court. He asked for a stay on Kala Hiran.
He argued that the movie was based on that blackbuck poaching case involving him. That it violated some order from the Delhi HC protecting his personal stuff. But Shrinate is confident things will sort themselves out soon. They hope the film releases next month. It definitely will happen.
He added something about these kinds of films. So many movies come out about real, sensitive stuff homicides, terrorist attacks, history. And nobody seems to object to that kind of storytelling. Their story came from an episode in Jodhpur. They aren't showing Salman Khan anywhere, not really. And they’re getting backing from the industry now.
