CM Joseph Vijay on NEET and Tamil Nadu Welfare

C Joseph Vijay, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu , went back on Tuesday again about the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test , or NEET . He basically hammered home that the exam was unfair to medical students here in the state and he absolutely opposed anyone forcing a language onto the students.

He said something pretty big about this that whatever matters for Tamil Nadu’s welfare has to come before all those political squabbles happening right now. It felt like a pivot, you know? Right in the middle of all the noise surrounding that re-examination they held back in June after messing with the May 3 test due to some alleged leaks and irregularities.

This whole NEET thing is huge politically in Tamil Nadu. Opposition to it isn't new; parties have been arguing for ages that this national entrance exam just disadvantages folks from here. And then, things got even darker. Reports started floating around about two medical aspirants who allegedly took their own lives within a short time frame. It just adds another layer of pressure onto the whole situation.

PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss has been pushing hard, asking both the Centre and the state government to either scrap the exam entirely or somehow get Tamil Nadu off the list. That kind of demand comes from somewhere, you know? Real distress.

When you look at the numbers for that re-examination itself, it’s a lot. NTA sources say they enrolled about 1,42,489 candidates from Tamil Nadu. It was spread across 307 centers statewide, including those in Chennai too, forty-three of them actually.

The students who sat for the test told PTI that things felt much harder than the original paper. Physics and Chemistry were brutal long, difficult stuff. Biology, though? That seemed comparatively easier. Most of the questions, they said, stuck to what was taught in the NCERT curriculum.

Security was definitely tight during the process. They put up biometric checks, fingerprinting, facial recognition stuff. The police reported that everything went down peacefully, no major incidents. Still, you can’t ignore the mood it sets.

Vijay made a point about unity. He spoke in the Assembly, talking about how if people actually focus on what benefits Tamil Nadu the welfare of the state then they can lead the country. It was a call to pull focus away from the noise.

He started by thanking everyone for electing him and his party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam ( TVK ), to the Assembly. He expressed deep gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu, saying they have a permanent place in his heart.

There was some pushback too, about how he entered politics. Some folks were talking about him coming straight from film sets. Vijay shot that down pretty quickly. He called it just a ‘reel.’ Said that kind of thing doesn't matter when you’re trying to lead.

He also touched on the political maneuvering itself. He mentioned that TVK contested the 2026 Assembly election without any formal alliance, managed to grab thirty-five percent of the vote, and got seventeen point two million votes. It was a statement about how things actually happened on the ground.
