Gold Prices, Diplomacy, and Trade Negotiations Update

Gold prices dipped Wednesday. It seems that easing tensions between Tehran and Washington actually managed to calm things down across the global market sentiment.

Down in Mumbai, the local rates for gold were moving too. 24K gold was sitting at Rs 1,40,130 per ten grams. But the 22K stuff saw a drop, settling at Rs 1,28,450. Just these numbers flashing up.

The futures market wasn't much better for it. MCX gold futures for August 2026 delivery traded down, losing about 1.18%. Silver followed suit; MCX silver futures for July 2026 delivery edged lower too, dropping by 0.96% per kilogram.

Meanwhile, the diplomatic side of things is still cooking. US and Iranian officials are set to meet up in Qatar next week. This follows days of those reciprocal attacks that had really threatened their interim aGreement, according to Donald Trump.

But there’s a lot going on behind closed doors. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei pushed back, saying the delegation isn't scheduled for talks with the United States. He claimed they are only visiting Qatar to push for the release of Iran’s frozen assets.

That didn't sit well with Tehran, though. President Masoud Pezeshkian insisted that their side would honor the memorandum of understanding if Washington did the same. A classic standoff.

Over in the trade arena, things on the India-US front are still being hammered out. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor made it clear on Monday that the bilateral trade aGreement is finally in its last stages. Negotiators are just working through the final 1 or 2% of the legal text now.

Gor also spoke at that US-India Strategic Partnership Forum. He mentioned the deal had been dragging for about eighteen months. There were delays, some judicial stuff thrown in the way. But they finally pushed it forward through high-level talks. He added Trump still wants that “win-win” alignment with New Delhi. It’s complicated. Very complicated right now.
