Main Vaapas Aaunga: Behind-the-Scenes Magic and Story

Main Vaapas Aaunga is just blowing up right now. Everyone’s talking about it. Diljit Dosanjh, man, he really won hearts online recently after some behind-the-scenes footage leaked. It was a warm moment, seriously. Between him and Naseeruddin Shah on the sets.

The clip caught them interacting Diljit touching Naseeruddin Shah’s feet, just a gesture of respect. Naseeruddin smiled, blessed him. Diljit hugged him, folded hands. You could feel something authentic in it.

People are losing it. One fan posted something wild: “Wow! Naseer sir is looking like an authentic Gursikh gentleman. Remind me of my grandpa.” Another one just went big on the legend status: “What a legendary moment of a legend meeting a legend at a legend’s set!!” It’s hitting different, I guess.

Imtiaz Ali weighed in about why this movie works, or doesn't work. He said it wasn’t really driven by just the stars. That’s key. He quoted Hindustan Times saying, “We are not a star-driven film, so this film was supposed to be like this.” He felt it couldn't have opened massive just because of names. If it’s good, people will go and tell everyone else to watch it. That’s how it has to progress. Hopefully, it keeps growing.

He also touched on the money side. There’s this phase lag thing between getting acclaim and making big money. He said, “I am particularly happy that the younger generation is coming in and liking it.” And then the numbers. The ticket sales are improving. Figures are better if you look at them now. That uptrend? It’s happening.

So what is the film about? Main Vaapas Aaunga brings Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina into it as major players. Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment put this together with Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar from Window Seat Films. It’s running well in theaters right now.

The story itself is heavy. It follows Ishar Singh Grewal, played by Naseeruddin Shah. He’s ninety-five years old. He suffers a stroke while trying to make his way to Sargodha in Pakistan. And memories from before Partition start popping up for him. His grandson, Nirvair, played by Diljit Dosanjh, comes back from England. He starts pulling together some deeply personal bits from the family history. The mystery around what Ishar is still feeling that’s the real engine of the whole story. It’s that unrest that drives everything.
