Ishaan's Reflections on Relationships and Sacrifice

Ishaan also reflected on his relationship with Shahid . The actor is fifteen years his senior. Ishaan said Shahid became a parental figure for him in many ways over the years. There’s this interesting dynamic, right? They are more like pals than brothers, but there's still that line of respect hanging there. He joked about how sometimes arguments just end with, “I am older than you,” because Shahid apparently changed his diapers.
He called Shahid “Baba Sasha.” Ishaan said he has had the privilege of watching his brother’s entire journey up close. Watching him make mistakes and seeing his triumphs it felt like watching growth unfold. It’s a real bond there, that beautiful friendship they developed over time.
Neelima’s life story also came into focus. She started her artistic path pretty early. A big honor for her, that was.
Ishaan talked about his own childhood too. He mentioned seeing his mother juggle so many roles while raising him. “In many ways,” he said, “I saw my mom double up throughout my childhood.” It’s a lot of juggling.
Then there’s Neelima’s personal life weaving in. She had Pankaj Kapur as her first husband when she was twenty-one. Later, she had Ishaan with Rajesh Khatter when she was thirty-six. Despite all those shifts and becoming a mother at different phases, Ishaan noted that Neelima kept a warm, open friendship with both of her sons.
He touched on the heavy stuff the sacrifices. He said that even being deeply connected to the art world, she often chose stability over pure artistic satisfaction just so she could run the house and provide security. It’s that kind of thing, isn't it?
“Anything worth it requires sacrifice,” he mused. “But how working women who are also parents give up parts of themselves… you have to be a superwoman.” He spoke about her choosing jobs for consistent pay instead of the stuff that truly excited her creatively.
“The artiste part of her is a big piece of who she is,” he said. “But she put the mother role first.” He felt glad he had a parent he didn't have to hide anything from or lie about.
Neelima herself mentioned things in an earlier interview. That kind of resilience is something else.
Meanwhile, the focus shifted slightly to the brothers’ connection again. Ishaan said he feels most vulnerable with Shahid. They check on each other constantly. “He does call to check up on me. I call to check up on him,” Ishaan shared.
But these recent comments from Ishaan give us a glimpse into that family dynamic the role Neelima played, being both an anchor and an artist navigating everything. It’s complicated, messy stuff.
