Navi Mumbai Airport Leak Sparks Controversy Over Construction Quality

Days after getting that international nod one of those seven most beautiful airports from Prix Versailles the Navi Mumbai International Airport is suddenly in hot water. Not for its architecture anymore.

A viral video popped up showing actual leakage. Water running right over the luggage belt during some pre-monsoon showers. It’s all happening inside the airport, near baggage belt five. That's where commercial stuff started rolling in way back in December 2025.

People shared it on X immediately. The clip just showed water leaking through a section of the roof over the luggage conveyor while everyone was waiting for their bags. It’s weird, right?

One user posted something sharp about it. They claimed this was the condition of the newly built airport. Like, even before Mumbai actually gets monsoon rain.

The reaction online wasn't just polite. Sarcasm kicked in fast. People were questioning how that massive project costing over nineteen thousand crore rupees to build was handled.

Some joked it was world-class because they introduced some new "washing" tech for luggage.

“Our bags get washed clean for free on arrival. Thanks, Sir Ji,” one comment popped up. A bit of a joke maybe, but you could feel the irony there.

Then another person jumped in with something totally different. “Bro, this is India’s first international airport with built-in monsoon experience. Free upgrade, no extra charge.” Pure sarcasm bleeding through.

It got a little more pointed. Someone else hit back, pointing out the lack of aesthetic sense. They brought up Changi Airport in Singapore, where they have huge waterfalls running around. “Stop spreading false narratives,” someone wrote. “You lack aesthetic sense.”

But then you get the practical side kicking in. Some people argued that maybe new structures just have teething problems. It’s not about the leak itself, it's about how fast it gets fixed.

“I aGree it shouldn’t happen,” one person said. “But all these massive builds have infant problems. The real question is, how soon are they going to fix this? Post again during the full monsoon or when you visit. Hope to hear from you.” A plea mixed with frustration.

Then there was the direct shot at the airport management itself. Someone else went straight for @navimumairport. “This is probably just air-conditioning drain lines choking and leaking. It happens everywhere, even from your home AC unit. Fix it. Don’t let this kind of thing happen again. You don't seem to have a great reputation anyway.”

It all comes right after the airport got some serious praise. Just days before that recognition. The listing alongside Guwahati’s terminal 2 in the Prix Versailles list for the world’s most beautiful airports. Lotus-inspired columns, geometric portals, all that Green space they touted. A different story then. Now it feels like a messy reality under the surface.
