Uttar Pradesh Schools Achieve National Recognition for Clean and Sustainable Education

Uttar Pradesh managed to snag a pretty good spot nationally for clean and sustainable schools. Eleven institutions from the state made the cut for the Government of India’s Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating , or SHVR , for the 2025-26 cycle.

It wasn't just about a simple grade though. The rankings actually look at a lot cleanliness, how they handle water conservation, managing waste, and overall Green campus development. It’s an effort to see how well these places are running environmentally, you know?

Six of those spots go to government schools. Two are Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas , or KGBVs .

This whole achievement really highlights something happening there. A growing push to make the learning environment better in government-run schools. Some of them are starting to look like real models for how things should be done environmentally.

You see some names pop up when you look at the list. Primary School Italia Mafi in Sambhal landed at Rank 12. Then there’s Primary School Chokhapur in Pilibhit, ranked 25. PMV Kanya Ganchapa in Chitrakoot came in at 27. And others like Primary School Sahajni in Bareilly (Rank 29) and Composite School Aamgaon in Badaun (Rank 36).

Up there is Upper Primary School Kutubpur Labdaula in Saharanpur, ranked 55.

The KGBVs also showed up nicely. Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Hariharpur Rani got Rank 9. And the one in Jalaun, Konch, was placed at Rank 14.

Not just government schools, either. Air Force School Manauri in Prayagraj scored Rank 31. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gajokhar, Varanasi is listed at Rank 46. Even some private places made the list. Dayawati Modi Academy-1 in Meerut secured Rank 4.

It’s a big picture when you look at how this all came together. Nationwide, they pulled in 191 schools out of almost 170,000 participants. UP nominated twenty top performers after their own state evaluation. Eleven of those managed to make the final national cut.

What they were measuring involved sanitation, saving water, energy efficiency, how they handle trash, and getting community involvement. Officials are saying this result reflects all those ongoing drives the plantation campaigns, the water initiatives, and the school transformation programs happening across Uttar Pradesh right now. It’s clearly making a difference somewhere.

The whole process wasn't just handed down. Schools had to do some self-assessment through that SHVR portal first. Then came district and state verification. It was a multi-stage review, digital stuff, all that.

Someone named Shyam Kishore Tiwari, a Senior Construction Expert, pointed the finger at where the credit actually lies. He said it’s not just one thing. It’s the teachers, the students, the School Management Committees, and the Education Department working together. He felt this recognition should push other schools to start copying those best practices in Greenery and infrastructure development.

The Basic Education Department is also making a move. They announced that they plan to honor the top 20 schools identified at the state level. The idea is to use that momentum to promote these kinds of initiatives all over Uttar Pradesh, not just focus on this one list. It’s setting up some real goals there.
