Trump on the Iran Deal, Conflict, and Funding

Trump talked Wednesday about an Iran deal. He called it "unacceptable" if it meant putting fees on shipping or maritime stuff through the Strait of Hormuz. That’s where it started, I guess.

He was meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte when he said things were going well in the conflict against Iran. Performing okay, they said.

Then came the real punch. He brought up Democrats. Alleged they just wanted to lose the war against Iran. A sharp turn there.

“We’re doing great,” he claimed. Then followed that really strange bit about the negotiations. Four Republican Senators and all the Democrats. And then he threw out that jab about DUMocrats. Said they were stupid because their policy was so bad. He even changed the 'E' to a 'U'. Weird stuff.

The war itself, though. Trump insisted it was powerful. Going very, very well. Iran was making concessions. He said they’d see what happens. But it felt like something more. Very powerful.

Later in the day, things shifted again regarding the oil prices. They had dropped down, almost to seventy a barrel. Lowest level since before the whole Iran conflict even kicked off.

Trump reacted immediately to that dip. “I see that oil just broke the $70 number,” he remarked. Who would have thought that? During a war. And Iran was being nice. AGreeing to what he wanted. They had to. Otherwise, they’d just go back and do whatever they needed to.

During that meeting with Rutte, there was another layer of feeling coming out. He felt let down. Let down by the allies. Not supporting the US actions against Iran.

He said they didn't need help at all. Demolished it in the first week. But he wished they had offered support. Said it would have been nice if they’d just said, ‘We’d like to help.’ That was during the Oval Office chat. A real feeling there. Let down by the transatlantic alliance structure.

Meanwhile, separate from all that political noise, there’s this funding request floating around. Fox News reported the administration asked for $672 million. Part of a bigger push. Aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

That money was supposed to secure or dispose of enriched uranium and other sensitive nuclear materials they had. And make sure the IAEA the International Atomic Energy Agency could do better inspection and verification work. It all tied into that massive $80 billion supplemental package linked to the escalating tensions involving Iran. A lot happening, you know? Just moving pieces around.
