Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan , finally got the Green light from the CBFC. An A certificate. After waiting seven months, it's finally hitting theaters.
But there’s more to the story than just the release date. It turns out the version they show in India is going to be different. That’s the catch. The original cut? That one goes overseas.
Ahimsa Entertainment, the folks handling the UK distribution, spilled the beans on Sunday. They confirmed it got a 15+ rating with absolutely no changes or cuts made there. It was all uncut for them.
They posted it on X, talking about how they’re releasing Jana Nayagan in UK cinemas on July 24th. Uncut. 15-rated. They really pushed that the action, the mass appeal, the whole Thalapathy craze exactly as it was meant to be seen. One last time, they said.
Now, for what happened back home. The Indian version? That’s where things got messy. There were serious changes made before it landed here.
Look, in Jana Nayagan , Vijay plays Thalapathy Vetri Kondan, TVK. And that nickname is tied to the political party he started. It connects everything.
One of the key edits touched a specific timestamp, 110:23. They tweaked something around there involving "Ambedkar satam…to… TVK sattam." That reference? Gone. Muted. Removed from both audio and visuals. The dialogue just got changed. Nothing about the movie’s length was affected, mind you.
Then there were all these specific removals. Every time the word “OM” popped up? Gone. Also that part where they explained Operation Meluha the term “New India” that was omitted too.
There were other moments getting scrubbed clean. The dialogue about Shri Saddam being hanged, the bit about "Thookula thookirachavan…avanau medaila leak panni" it got either muted or replaced entirely. And visuals? They edited out something showing a Deputy Commissioner’s office badge being rolled down in a way that felt disrespectful.
It kept going. Words like “Bhagavatham” and “Ranganathar” were muted. The terms “Thevidiya Paiya" and "Otha" got silenced too, just part of the modifications they made.
Then there was some dialogue about Ponnoda… kudthu vachirukkum, Udambu erukirunu. That section faded out entirely. And that line about "India n kalla virala vaikarne" that was also muted.
Visuals depicting a child being burned? Removed. Replaced. And the word “Siluvaila” got muted. The name “Sheela Rani”? Swapped out. Even visuals showing the Indian flag falling to the ground were edited away. It’s a lot of stuff they went through.
